A SWELL AFFAIR.
The Marriage Last Night In High Colored
Circles.
The marriage last night of Mr. L. R
Stringfellow and Miss Mollie Ewing
at Mt. Rose Baptist church was a no-
table event i* the upper circles of
Brenham colored society. The servi-
ces at the church were impressive
and were witnessed by a large as-
semblage of the friends and acquaint-
ances of the bride and groom. After
the ceremony at the church carriages
were taken and the happy couple, fol-
lowed by the invited guests, were
driven to the Knights of Pythias
hall, where a sumptuous banquet had
been prepared by the Seven Stars of
Consolidation, of which society the
groom is an honored member, as also
a member of the Odd Fellows and
Knights of Pythias.
The banquet room was artistically
and tastefully decorated for the occa-
sion. In the center of the hall were
seven tables, arranged in the shape of
the figure 7, and laden to their full
capacity with toothsome edibles and
costly oonfections. An hour was
spent in discussing the good things
thus prepared, and at its conclusion
the bride and groom retired to a
charmingly improvised reception
room divided off by curtains and con
taining a sofa, a stand with vases of
flowers and other appropriate fix-
tures. Here the presents to the bride
and groom were received, as follows:
Knights of Pythias lodge—Set of
silver knives and forks, also set of
dishes.
Odd Fellows lodge—Set of elegant
fnrniture.
The Pleides lodge No. 6—Set of plush
parlor chairs.
Altogether the ceremony and ban-
quet was a grand affair and passed off
in first-class style.
The Gun Club Shoot.
The weekly shoot of the Brenham
Gun Club, which was to have taken
place today, came off yesterday, with
the following result: L. T. Lockett,
alias "Christmas Ben,'- won the gold
medal, scoring 22 out of a possible 25.
Will Mornss succeeded in bagging
the leather medal, with a record of 17
out of a possible 25:
The scores were far above the
average and indicates some rare skill
on the part of the members of the
Club.

An Important^) fllce.
To properly fill its office and functions, it is.
important that the blood be pure. When it is
in such a condition, the boay is almost cer-
tain to be healthy. A complaint at this time
is catarrh in some of its various forms. A
slight cold develops the disease in the head.
Droppings of corruption passing into the
lungs bnng on cousumption. The only way
to cure this disease is to purify the blood.
The most obstinate cases of catarrh yield to
the medicinal powers of Hood's Sarsaparilla
as if by magic, simply because it reaches the
seat of the disease, and by purifying and
vitalizing the blood, removes the cause. Not
only docs Hood's Sarsaparilla do this but it
gives renewed vigor to the whole system,
making it possible for good health to reigu
capreme.
And Still Another.
A horse, attached to a buggy, In
which was seated a woman, whose
name we were unable to learn, became
frightened in Camptown last night
and started on a dead run through
the streets of Brenham. Early In the
stage of the proceedings the lady was
dumped ou the ground, but, for-
tunately, received no further injury
thanaBevere shaking up. The band
had assembeled to give their usual
street concert when the runaway ap-
peared ou the scene and such a
scattering of horns, <^rums and musi-
cians has not been seen iu Brenham
for many a day. The animal dis-
appeared up Sandy street with head
at\4 tall up and the running gear of
the vehicle in first-class working
order.
