It KerniK to have the world for a Held, and most
of the civ rent dlseanes yield to Its action. I
have used It in the case of a delicate and dlspep-

it seemed to accomplish with ease what the usu-

In France there aro now 4,575
miles of navigable rivers and 2,900
miles of canals. In the year 1852
thoro were only 4,190 miles of
river navigable and 2,440 miles of
canals, the increaso in the length
of rivers being 385 nrles and in
that of canals 460 miles. But this
increase has been affected at an
enormous oxpense, tho total
a . o i spent hou1 1852 up to the
year 1878 being close upon $70,-
000,000, while sinco then, under
the scheme of M. de Froycinct for
the development of communication
by land or water, a further sum of
$55,000,000 has already been
spent. Thus in round figures tho
cost since 1852 has been $125,000,-

series of minute investigations,
that tho surlaces of fifty-pfennig

tablo fungus. An extended series
of observations showed that this is
case with the small coins of all
nations, the thin incrustation of
organic matter deposited upon
their surfaces in the course of long
circulation rendering them very
suitable for this parasitical settle-
ment Dr. Reinsch scraped off
some "i these incrustations, and,
with a small scalpel, divided them
into fragments, which were subse-
quently dissolved in distilled
water. The employment of lenses
of a very high power showed the
bacteria and fungi distinctly. This
is a matter of no little importance,
from a hygienic point of view. It
has now been conclusively estab-
lished that bactcria form the chief
agency in the propagation of epi-
demic disease. The revelation
that they have a choson domicile
