throughout the country to a policy
strange to its platforms and hurtful
to the interests of tho masses of the
people who make up the body of its
organization. With a zeal worthy
of a better cause the agents and
spokesmen of tho Wall street view
of politics have been pushing things
for the last two years until they
have managed to acquire an influence
upon tho party far beyond the ratio
of their numbers. In the East they
have worked aggrossively; in the
South and West with more diplo-
macy, preferring here to cloak their
design until they could lay hold of
the party machinory. Tho presi-
dent's attitude as to silver, and es-
pecially his vetoe of the seigniorage

Ashland District democrats how
unsullied bis public career has been,
and how many postoffices and agri-

establish for their use, he might also
tell them how Madeline Pollard
came to be a clerk in the treasury
service at Washington and how, of
all the females in the United States,
his own Pompadour, his Nell Gwynn
came to be chosen for the position.
Then, after he has explained how
this came about, ho might again
make the claim that his private vic-
ious life has not affected his garish
public life in the least.

Thoy have used the power which
thoy never could have obtained
without the support of froe coinage

since through foul means it was
demonetized in 1873. Not content
with " this, they have carried "the
war into Africa'" by avowed and ac-
tive hostility to every Southern and
Western congressman who'remained
true to his convictions of right and
to his pledges to the people, and in
spite of the threats of power and the
seductions of patronage steadfastly
refused to enlist in the administra-

ventured to call upon the Southern
people to indorse the administration
and repudiate their congressmen,

Oates is the reply that Alabama
flakes to this appeal.
This is not of Judge Reagan's
making. It is the effervescence of
partisanship which lays it to his door
as a creation of selfishness. Presi-
dent Cleveland made the issue. He
emphasized it in his veto of the
seigniorage bill. His orancies and
orators in Texas have given fair
warning of their purpose to manacle
Texas Dejnocracy with the bands of
a single gold standard if artifice and
aggressiveness can do it. It is well
remembered how in the Lampassas
convention the will of the few was
£bade to ^dominate the will of tbe

the national convention for a doc-

It is now reported that further
investigations made by the officials
of the German army prove that the
first reports as to the desirability of
peanut meal as a food were prema-

Edwards, "that peanut flour or grits
cannot be regarded as healthy or
nourishing as a regular diet, and
has been discontinued in the Ger-

A YOUNG GIRL'S FORTUNE.
AN INTERESTING SKETCH.
Nothing appeals so strongly to a mother's
affection as her daughter Just budding into
womanhood. Following is an instance: "Our
daughter, Blanche, now 15 years of age, had
been terribly afflicted with nervousness, and
had lost the enUre use of her right arm. She
was in such a condition that we had to keep
her from school and abandon her music les-
sons. >In fact, we feared 8t. Vitus dance, and
are positive but for an Invaluable remedy she
would have had that terrible affliction. We
had employed physicians, but she received no
benefit from them. The first of last August she
weighed but 7a pounds, and although she has
taken only three boMles of Nervine she now
weighs 106 pounds; her nervousness and symp-
toms of St. Vitus dance are entirely gone, she
attends school regularly, and studies with com-
fort and ease. She has recovered complete use
of her arm, her appetito is splendid, and no
money could procure for onr daughter the health
L>r. Miles' Nervine has brought her.
When my brother recommended the remedy
1 hod no faith in patent medicines, and would
not listen to him, but as a last resort he sent us
a bottle, we began giving It to Blanche, and the
effect was almost immediate."—Mrs. B. R
