TO TIE BOARD OF CONTROL
Our careful annual examination of the properties revealed that the items
listed should have attention under the usual summer repair appropriations.
It is my recommendation that application be made to the Synodical Board of
Directors for the items listed with the intent that, as far as possible,
these repairs and improvements be carried out during the summer of 1945:
1. The rear door to the outside on Kilian Hall has suffered water
damage and should be repaired.-- --------- ---------------------$16.002. The same condition obtains in the outside door of the chapel
in Kilian Hall. This door should also be repaired. - - - - - - - - - -
3. We have at the service entrance of the kitchen a situation
which is both inconvenient and dangerous. There is no loading dock or
platform of any type. Instead, a series of concrete steps leads
directly to a screen door which opens in the direction of the steps.
Heavy packages or cases must be held while the delivery people back
down the steps in order to open the door of the service entrance to the
kitchen. This condition should be corrected by the installation of at
least a 4x8 concrete porch, with new steps leading to the porch itself.
The addition of this structure would enable delivery of heavy articles
to be made with safety and would also permit the kitchen staff to place
items (garbage, etc.) on this outside porch where they could be loaded
or unloaded at truck-bed level. -------- ---------------------

factory. The laboratories have gas steam radiators which automatically
cut out whenever the water in the radiator reaches a set temperature,
regardless of what the temperature of the room itself happens to be at
that time. The result is that to obtain a satisfactory heating
situation, at least two additional gas steam radiators (not obtainable
at present) would have to be installed. We suggest that the same
remedy which has been applied to the classrooms on the second floor of
this bui di be applied to the laboratory situation: the installation
of one burner circulating heater. There will be no addi-
tional pipe costs since the- outlets are already available for this
purpose. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 65.00
6. The situation at the back entrance to Kilian Hall requires
the same type of treatment that is required at the service entrance
to the kitchen. There is no loading dock or platform of any type
available, either for passengers or freight or mail. It is suggested
that a cement loading dock to provide also some relief from water
which now flows into the building under the rear door and also relief
from the situation which permits persons coming into the building to
drag mud and gravel over the lobby floors be constructed. To be sure
that proper drainage will be obtained at the same time, it is suggested
that this loading dock be constructed after the drives have been topped
with asphalt. It is necessary, therefore, to request that this appro-- 1
