Connors said Taste of the
Triangle contributes money to a
scholarship fund that provides
eight to 12 students with $200 to
$500 in scholarships.
Cheri McCurly, a Chef’s
Association member and sous chef
at The Tower Club said, “Here the
public gets a chance to see the peo-
ple behind the scene, the chefs and
the food preparers, to let people
know the waiters are not the only
people involved.”
The event was judged by local
media personalities, Elaine
Wikstrom, food editor for the
Beaumont Enterprise, Gary Lee
Love of KKYR 95.1 FM radio sta-
tion, Grace Trahan of KFDM-TV
Channel 6, Robin Roberts of
KBMT-TV Channel 12 and Joe
Arnold of KJAC-TV Channel 4.
Patrizi’s Restaurant won the
first place award for best food,
Esther’s Seafood and Oyster Bar,
Inc. won second place and the
Lazy Susan restaurant placed third.
The restaurant industry is the
largest retail employer in the
Sabine area creating more than
10,000 jobs for area residents.
Sales in area restaurants will
exceed $294 million this year and
will pay out wages of more than
$74 million.
The SARA has 173 members
and is a chapter of the 6,000 plus
member Texas Restaurant
Association.
