A Serious Charge.
Dkoatur, 'I ex., May 1 'J.—John
J. Oliver, a young farmer living
four miles southwest of Decatur,
was arrested by Sheriff Rucker
to-day on a charge of burglary,
said to have been committed in
Smith county several years ago.
Oliver has been living in Wise
county for five years, and has
borne a good reputation in the
community in which he lives.
Since his residence here he was
married to a young lady, a mem-
ber of one of the best families in
the county, and his arrest on so
grave a charge brings sorrow to
the community.
The young man claims to know
nothing of the charge and it is
hoped he may prove his inno-
cence. He will be taken to Smith
county to-morrow.
a Demonstration in the House of Repre-
sentatives by a Colored Coxey Crank.
Washington, May 14.—There
lias been a great deal of talk
about the probability of bombs
being used on the congress by
some irresponsible person and
the talk has become louder since
Cherry, a colored man, made a
demonstration in the gallery of
the house to day. He arose and
addressed the speaker twice in a
loud voice and theu stated that
unless congress passed the Coxey
bills by the 22d of this month the
capitol and treasury would be de-
destroyed. Jk> was quickly ar
rested by a doorkeeper and by
him transferred to a policeman
who took him to the calaboose.
Cherry is from Georgia, but lias
been in Washington a long time.
Ilis business is that of propelling
a large four-wheel bicycle on
which are two double seats for
passengers. He lias been con-
sidered of unsound mind and has
been pulled around by the author-
ities on several occasions. The
Coxey movement has excited him
to his present condition. The
man lias wild religious views also
and stated that God had sent him
to deliver tire message to Speaker
Crisp and he also sent him to de-
liver it to the president. All this
looks and sounds as the innocent
gabble of a crazy man, but the
congressmen argue that if (Jherry
had imagined that lie had been
directed by providence to throw
a bomb to the li>or he would
have done it. The conditions
now seem to be developing all
the cranks in the country and
Cherry's conduct to-day is a mat-
ter of considerable trouble to the
1: .vmakers.

This is to certify that we this day have witnessed the working of the
B aiPony cutting* rye five ieei high on the
farm of R. M* Scripture, four miles west of Dallas. It did the work per-
fectly, was easily handled, very light draft, cutting a six-foot swath and
drawn by two horses. The Roller and Bail Bearings have certainly rev-
olutionized the binder business, so far as reducing draft is concerned.
For simplicity, strength and neatness the 1 'ony has no equal.

Murder and Suicide.
Ft. Worth, Tex., May 14.—In-
sane or devilish jealousy was the
cause of two deaths in Ft. ^ ortli
Monday night. Dan Williams, a
horse trainer, fell in love with
Mrs. Sue McAnally, a widow lady
thirty years old, and because she
would not marry him he went to
her boarding house, called her
out on the porch and shot her to
death. Williams was pursued and
cornered by officers and when lie
saw there was no path of escape
he blew the top of his head off.
Mrs. McAnally was a lady of good
repute and was sending her 10-
year-old son to college from her
earnings as a seamstress.
A Brute Kills His Wife.
Dallas, Tex., May 15.—Dallas
has been compelled to see within
her own borders many foul mur-
ders, and was to-day again hor-
rified over the exposure of an-
other, quite as foul as any yet re-
corded.
Lewis E. Williams and wife,
! both middle-aged people, came to
Dallas three years ago from Min-
nesota and located on Mclvinney
street. Williams began working
at his trade as upholsterer. After
awhile neighbors noticed that the
husband and wife quarreled fre-
quently. 0
On last Thursday Mrs. Williams
was not noticed about the place
nor next day either. Finally her
absence became such a mystery
that a search of the premises was
made. It was found that Mrs.
Williams iiad been murdered in
her bed, lowered to the ground
through a window and buried
directly under it. Williams was
arrested and placed in jail.
Hefore the exposition of the
cri'ne he told the neighbors that
he had sent his wife to Dakota.
The ladies of the Elm street
Presbyterian church gave a straw-
berry and ice cream festival in
the Donahower block Tuesday
evening. We learn that the re-
ceipts amounted to about $2."».
Kegroas Murdii an Old baly.
Atlanta, Ga., May 14.—Five
negroes have been arrested for
the murder of Mrs. Lilly, who
was found dead at her table last
night. There is nothing but cir-
cumstantial evidence. The old
lady is supposed to have had
some money. Her servant tirst
gave the alarm at midnight aud
says she was in the city during
the early part of the night.
Died of Hsr Wounds.
Houston, Tex., May 15.—To-
night Mrs. J. H. White, who was
shot four times a few nights ago
by her husband, died from the ef-
fects of her wounds. Her hus-
band fired one bullet into the left
side of his head, from which he
died the next morning.
County Treasurer Kads is still
unable to leave his loom and is
improving only slowly.
Miss Jane Harris, whom we re-
ported sick last week, has grown
, worse since.
