On October 8th the Times gare
an aecount of the buying aud sell-
ing going on between the Tribune,
the Herald aud certain candidates
for office. We published nothing
but fade. We gave our author-
ities and submitted uur proofs.
The answers of Mr. Leigh
Clark, the Tribune aud the Herald
arc in. Mr. Clark and the Tribune
after virtually acknowledging a
part of our facts, resort to black-
guard personal abuse to refute
the other.
The Tribune iti addition, at-
tempts to throw discredit on Mr,
Chandler's statements of its cor-
ruption by the publication of as
dirty a piece of writing as we have
seen in print for some time.
The Herald makes no reply to
our publication of the sta ements
of Messrs. Clark and Kneeland,
that its support was offered to
them for *1U0, corroborated
by the acknowledgement of
their own solicitor and col-
lector, except to throw dirt
at the Timkh and Mr. Dean,
The Tribune, after an implied
threut to sue the Times for libel,
and after our reply, inviting suit,
declines in the following language:
'•No, old lady, the Tribune will do
nothing of the kind. You could
beat legal process on several
grounds, in the first place you
could successfully plead the i -
sanity dodge. Even if that fail-
ed you would have "lire and safe
retreat. You coul I simply fall be-
hind your mortgages. No news-
I'AI'ER IN Kl, I'ASO NEED FliAK LI-
lllit, SUITS, THEY ARE ALL Jl'DG-
ment l'RoOF." (The small caps are
ours),
We believe this is true as to
the Tribune and Herald. We will
take your word for it, George, it
is not true of the Times. There
tins been a wonderful chango in
the Times since (leueral Manager
Loving tried to buy it on cheek,
without money.
If the Tribune will tindu single
protested note or check against
the Timks, if our bankers will say
that we arc insolvent or that
we owe them a dol-
lar, if it can get one
of our employees to say that they
have missed a pay roll or been
paid in worthless checks, if it can
li ml a hotel, or merchant, with a
single bill against us unpaid, or
Lliut will not lie |<iii<I upon presen-
tation and authentication, we will
say no more, And no one knows
the truth of the Times' perfect sol
veuey better than the manager of
the Tribune, who only a few days
ago ottered to sell us a piece of
his machinery.
The public thus has the answer
of the guilty parties to our publi-
cation of facts. We leave it to
judge between us.
NT All III Ml MR. DEAN 1M THE HACK.
The "selling" press of El Paso
makes some feeble attempts at
dark hints about District Attorn y
Dean's connection with the "court
house swlnd'e." If you have any
charges to muke agaiiut Mr,
Hean's honesty, why don't you
come out of your "dark alley" and
give the proof, as the Times did
in your casesl Don't you know
that the Times is on record as op-
posing all the rascality connected
with that swindle! and that we
will oppose Mr. Dean if you can
prove these thingsyou hint atf

Thk more we consider the office
of justice of the peace, the more we
are convinced of its importance.
If the justice will open his court
early, stay during the day, and
despatch business promptly and
fairly, he can largi'ly increase
his docket, and dispose of many
cases, that would be expensive
and tedious, if taken to a higher
court. l)ou't make the mistake of
considering this a minor office.
The Times has every faith in G. H.
Kubank, his ability integrity and
industry. We advise the voters
of Kl Paso preciut to vote for Mr.
