largest number we will give a receipt for a five months' term in the College
The successful young ladies will have choice of the following courses: Teachers', Scientific,
Classic or Commercial. The tuition for ten months in either of these courses is worth $.14; for five
months, $27.

There are no restrictions or limits to this contest; any and all young ladies in the county are
eligible to nominations. On the 8th page of this paper will be found a coupon with a blank line where
you should insert the-name of the young lady for whom you wish to vote. Enclose this in an envelope
and address it to "News'Tuition Contest, Denton, Texas." If you are not a subscriber send us $1.00
and we will send you the paper one year and allow your candidate 52 votes, or for .">0 cents you will
get the News six months and 26 votes, or 25 cents will get it three months and 13 votes.

During the contest the votes will be received and counted by the editor and
the standing of each candidate will be published weekly. The votes will then
be deposited in a closed box and will be re-counted on the day the contest
closes, August 28, and the result determined by a committee of three disin-
terested persons.

of his candidacy for governor.
He will also speak at Pilot Point

The Owsley's Off for Austin.
Denton's millitary company, the
Owsley ltilles, left on the 4:35
train Monday morning for the
encampment at Austin. The boys
will be absent about ten days.
The roster of the company as it
will be at the encampment is as
follows:

Hon. A. C. Owsley has arranged
to hold a joint discussion with a
populist orator at Bolivar next
Saturday night. Speaking will
begin promptly at 8 o'clock.

Ana Attend the Coniederate Picnio—Gov.
Ross will Speak.
Capt. J. R. Burton, of Camp Sul
Ross, has arranged to have the
hero for whom the Denton camp
of Confederate veterans is named
to be present at the picnic Satur-
day to make an address.
The local camp has invited both
the Pilot Point and Lewisville
camps to be present Saturday and
all preparations necessary for a
general good time is being made.
Come and bring a well-filled
basket and assist in entertaining
the veterans.
Reagan Challenges an Editor.
Detroit, Texas, July 7.—Judge
John i!. Reagan, candidate for j
governor, addressed about 150;
people here to-day. He told how
the San Antonio Express had be-
come so alarmed about his age
and infirmities that oil one occa-
sion a reporter of the Express
had called on him. "1 said to
him," shouted the judge, "tell
your master 1 can throw him
down. I can outrun him and it
would give me infinite pleasure
for me to thrash him for lving
about me."
Call for Republican County Convention.
A county convention of the re-
publicans of Denton comity is
hereby called to meet at the court
house in the town of Denton on
the first Saturday, the 4th of Au-
gust, 1804, to elect delegates to
the state convention which meets
in Dallas in August, and to elect
delegates to the congressional
and senatorial conventions, and
to elect a county executive com-
mittee, chairman and secretary
for the coming two years, and to
transact any other business that
may come before said committee.

direction of Denton Lodge No. 82
1. O. O. F. all parties holding lots
in the Odd Fellows Cemetery un-
paid for are hereby notified that
they must pay for same within
the next sixty days. After
August 1st burial permits will
be denied all delinquents, and the
property will be re-sold and deed-
ed to others.
