The country east of the Salt
Lake and along the Denver and
Itio Grande presents you with a
succession of surprises which you
will never forget. Castle Gate is
a huge representation ot a gate
leading to a great dark building.
The whole is done in rock and
suggests a9 you fly past it, some
old castle of the other ages and
you find yourself wondering as to
its history and its people.
Junction City, Col., is passed
early in the morning and we had
snow was lying all around us on
the mountain crest and you keep
your window closed and suggest
to the porter that the Are is a lit-

hard-boiled eggs at live cents
each. 1 am not fond of eggs and
do not invest, especially since 1
tind that on looking into my
pocket book, the Denton nickels
have been largely replaced by
only time to notice that itseemed souvenirs in the lorm of rocks.

leaping over the river and then,
as a last resort, stepping through
a tunnel and climbing up to where
the rocks seemed higher and the
way more doubtful. It is a strik-
ing illustration of faith when we
remember that through such aw-
ful scenes as these, the responsi-
bility' rests on one man forward
there in the engine—and three
hundred men and women are de-
pending on him and believing in
him. It his eye should grow dim,
or his hand lose its strength, or
his mind wander from 'ts work,
many lives would be sacrificed,
and the passengers know this.!
Still they trust him while they
admire the scenery or talk or:

Would that we all, and always,;
had the same unfaltering trust in
Him who promises to "be with us j

on these fearful heights that they
may protect their claims. Some-
times a miner will find a "lead"
and begins to work it; soon some
man with means will come along
and settling a few yards distant,
will, with the help of his hired
labor or machinery, soon strike
the vein the other man discover-

order the poor man off. This
often results in the death of one

clouds of dark vapor in volume

sensation in this community.
There had been rain the night be-
