Long trip Staff photo by Dan parker
Among Winter Texans, Juergen and Mary Duennebier of Stuttgart, Germany, appear to
possess the distinction of traveling further than anyone else to visit Port Aransas each
year. They have been coming back and forth from Germany for 20 years, Mary said. Winter
Texans who frequent the Community Presbyterian Church’s Joint Effort Leisure Ministries
JELM) program stick pins in a map of the United States to show where they came from.
In this photo, Mary sticks a pin into a map of Germany, next to the U.S. map.

Halloween’s over. Now what?
The day that I am writing
this article happens to be the
day before Halloween, which
means every child in town
is looking forward to can-
dy! It also means that most
communities in our country
are getting ready for a “scary
celebration.”
I loved going to houses
for free candy as a kid - who
doesn’t (and I have even no-
ticed many adults getting in
on the free candy as well). The
day after Halloween is known
as El Dfa de los Muertos —
the Day of the Dead, in Mexico
and other Hispanic cultures.
Even in many oriental cultures
there is a great deal of respect
shown to those who have died
(which isn’t a bad thing as long
as it doesn’t turn into ancestor
worship). All of this “death
imagery” has me thinking
about life and what we do in
this life.
Here is an unpleasant
thought: We are going to die.
We have only a short time
w
Cam
ILLJAj'j]
while on Earth - so what are
you doing with your time
here? Are you living for plea-
sure (hedonism)? Are you liv-
ing for financial treasure? Are
you living to just make ends
meet and get by? Or, are you
living for something eternal?
Immediately after feeding
the 5,000 (which only men
were counted, so there were
at least 10,000 - 12,000 that
Jesus fed) many people saw
Jesus as a source of free food.
Jesus posed the same question
to them.. .’’what are you living
for?” John 6:27 NIV: KDonot
work for food that spoils, but for
food that endures to eternal life,
which the Son of Man will give
you. On him God the Father
has placed his seal of approval”
I know there are many who
♦ ^
c
doubt that Jesus said he is who
he said he was, but stay with me
for a moment.
What if Jesus really is the Son
of God and we really can spend
eternity with Him in heaven?
Then die answer to the ques-
tion, “What are you doing with
your time here?” has impact on
your life for eternity. If we are
all honest, we all tnink about
what will happen to us when we
die. If we all are going to die,
then maybe we should have an
answer to that question. John
14:6 NIV Jesus answered, “lam
the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father ex-
cept through me.” God has given
us a way to spend eternity with
Him after this life. God doesn’t
keep people from Him...we
choose not to follow Jesus.
Now that you are reading this
a week after Halloween and all
the scary celebration has ended,
what are you living for? Do you
want eternal life with God?
