“The History of Love,” a
tale of laughter, irony, passion
and imagination is the Ellis
Memorial Library Book Clubs
choice for its next discussion
on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m.
The second novel by the
American writer Nicole
Krauss, “The History of Love,”
was published in 2005. The
book was a 2006 finalist for
the Orange Prize for Fiction.
Reading Group Guides
provides this synopsis of the
book: A lost book reappears,
drawing together the lives of
the irrepressible Leo Gursky
who has arrived at the end of
his life, a locksmith searching
for the son who’s never known
him, and young Alma Singer,
desperate to find her namesake
and a cure for her mothers
loneliness. Gradually their
stories merge into a single
triumph of the imagination
over loss.
“The History of Love,” is
a New York Times bestseller
and winner of the William
Saroyan International Prize
for Writing, the Edward Lewis
Wallant Award and Frances
Prix du Meilleur Livre Etrang-
er Award.
