calmer seas, a slightly lower tide and
sunny skies.
Staffel said he had not confirmed the
number of fish brought to the weigh sta-
tion under the Fred Rhodes Pavilion at
Roberts Point Park, but “it looked like a
good amount.”
This year’s Offshore Grand Champion
was William Breen of Houston. Last
year’s champion, Kendall Owens, 9, of
Port Aransas, wore her good luck paja-
mas and came in as Offshore Runner-up.
She repeated as Top Woman Angler and
Top Offshore Junior Angler.
The Billfish Boat Champion was the
Bandit of Port Aransas, and the Billfish
Runner-up was Stir It Up out of Dallas.
Josh Garcia of Port Aransas reigned
as Bay/Surf Champion, and Runner-up
in that division was Gary Cooper of
Corpus Christi.
Top Bay/Surf Junior Angle was Cam-
eron Collins of Port Aransas.

“Despite all the weather predictions,
and some overrated predictions from
out of town sources, we appreciated
(contestants) coming out and fishing de-
spite those predictions arid the uncertain
weather,” Staffel said.
The Roundup is sponsored by the Port
Aransas Boatmen, Inc. to raise scholar-
ship money for Port Aransas High School
seniors, to support a variety of youth-
oriented causes, and community drives
such as the Care and Share Christmas
Food Drive sponsored by the VFW and
the Toy Roundup sponsored by the city’s
first responders.

include staff and graduate students from

University-Corpus Christi.
“We appreciate the volunteers - they
really helped us,” Staffel said.
Over the years as he has observed
their work, Staffel said he has developed
a “growing appreciation for our pool of
volunteers.”
At the conclusion of the tourna-
ment, the rules and all aspects of the
tournament are reviewed, Staffel noted.
