Sheriff: 'We Need Neighbors
Watching Out For Neighbors'
"We need community involvement,
neighbors watching out for neighbors,"
Sheriff Larry Stewart reminds citizens.
This situation is true in both rural areas
and towns.
Sheriff Stewart recalled several mat-
ters, including one major area burglary
ring, which have been cleared by alert
individuals.
"We ask people to be aware of what's
going on," the sheriff said. "Know your
neighbor’s vehicle description and re-
port any suspicious activities immedi-
ately. We don't mind checking any re-
port, even if it turns out to be nothing."
Both a business in Happy and a ve-
hicle parked adjacent to it were forcibly
entered over the week-end. Apparently
nothing was missing from the business,
butclothing articles were taken from the
vehicle.
A citizen whose residence is located
in the east-northeast part of the county
reported various items have been miss-
ing over a period of several weeks.
Sheriffs Department arrests during
the past week have been for:
•Driving while intoxicated (DWI)
felon and application to revoke (same
individual)
•DWI felony
•Two driving while license sus-
pended layouts
•Two DWI layouts
•Public intoxication.
The DPS made an arrest on Moore
County charges.
Fifteen inmates were incarcerated
Monday afternoon.
It was impossible to retain a solemn
expression at the second annual Mr. Tulia
contest.
Although no one present made an ef-
fort, suppressing laughter would have
been impossible a the funfest which fea-
tured 15 Tulia High School male students
attired in clothing of the opposite sex.
They first appeared in casual wear for a
dance —which featured an abundance of
motion — and later relumed in formal
wear to delight the audience and answer
questions from emcee Margie Coomer.
Clever answers brought the same
lively crowd response as the contestants'
garb.
Dominque (Domingo) Garcia was
chosen by judges to succeed Stephanie
(Steven) Rossi as Mr. Tulia during 1992.
He received $25, a crown and a carnation.
Roberta Lynn (Robert) Rodriguez was
the runner-up.
Mr. Congeniality was Ursula Gretchen
(Ulises) Herrera. He was chosen by fel-
low contestants.
The Tulia High Annual Staff spon-
sored the event, which was held in the
AFTER-GAME FELLOW-
SHIP—A junior high and senior high
after-game fellowship is planned Fri-
day in Fellowship Hall of First Baptist
Church. All senior high and junior
high students are invited.
THS Auditorium.
Sponsored by Sheri McBride, the new
Mr. Tulia is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Domingo*Garcia. The runner-up, son of
Robert and Sylvia Rodriquez, was spon-
sored by Hair Design. Herrera, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Joaquin Herrera, was sponsored
by Leah Sanders and Jennifer Vanzee.
Female escorts were donned in jackets,
ties and shorts.
Triple F (Four Fresh Females) pro-
vided musical entertainment during in-
termission. Yolanda Smith, Latoya Jen-
nings, Mary Brookins and Finaye Burnett
form the group.
