Maverick Rodeo Makes High Marks
The North American Rodeo Commission Finals which
boasts the only "World Championship" Rodeo that includes
competitors from Australia, United States, Mexico, and
Canada concluded last week in El Paso. Eight sanctioned
events had over 700 competitors in the ten-day extravaganza.
Maverick Rodeo Company of Tulia was one of 15 rodeo
livestock producers that were invited to participate with their
world class rodeo livestock. Maverick's bucking stock is used
in the Tulia Picnic Rodeo as well as several other Texas
Panhandle Rodeos and New Mexico Rodeos.
The outstanding bucking bull, Jericho, who has twice
been recognized as Outstanding Bucking Bull of the Year in
New Mexico and once as the Outstanding Bucking Bull of the
Year in Texas, had the highest mark ride of the rodeo scored
on him. Barry Scallion, Reserve Champion Bull Rider from El
Paso, scored 87 points the last and final go around cf the North
American Rodeo Commission Finals (NARC).
The exceptional, high scoring, ride brought the crowd to
their feet in applause during the short go around when only the
top 12 of 68 cowboys and the top 12 head of bucking bulls
competed in the last short go around.
One hundred points is considered a perfect score so 87 is
definitely on the cutting edge of excellence! Each bull rider
rode two bulls and the top 12 with the highest total score
relumed to the final go around to determine the championship.
Other Maverick Rodeo Stock that was returned to the
final go around included the 1991 Texas Bucking Horse of the
year, Shadrack, who was raised by Maverick Rodeo Company.
Soloman, a Texas Bucking Bull of Maverick's won the second
go round with 82 points scored by a Louisana Champion bull
rider. Other livestock Maverick exhibited included: Israel,
Mojo, Santos, Morning Star, Quanah Parker, Daniel, Abigail
and Pilgrim. As can be easily seen, most Maverick livestock
is named out of the Bible.
Fred Pitt and family own the Maverick Livestock Rodeo
Company and have been Tulia residents for the past 12 years.
