State of Texas,
County of Gaines,
In the District Court of Gaines
County Texas, December Term,
A. D 1984.
We, your grand jury for the
above term of said court report
to yon that we haye investigated
all matters of a criminal nature
thus far brought to our attention,
and have, when we felt warrant
ed, returned our bills of indict
rnent. We have returned Into
open court during this term six
feiony bills of Indictment.
We are glad to report that we
find very little crime of major
importance existing in our
county.
We have evidence there isjsome
bit of driving automobiles on
our public highways while in-
toxicated. It is our judgement
that this crime is one that should
receive the attention of the
officers and all other citizens.
We conclude that it is dangerous
enough on our road now when
everyone has control of all their
mental faculties. We call upon
all the citizens of the county to
do all they can to see to it that
the drunken drivers remain off
our highways.
We have evidence there is
some cow stealing going on in
our county but from the evidence
we have we have not felt justified
in returning our indictments.
But we urge that all citizens lend
every effort in helping the officers
to stop this crime which is of
major importance to our county.
We call upon the officers to leave
no stone unturned in ascertaining
the cow thief. We find in this
connection that the butchers of
tiie county have not been mak-
ing the reports required of them
by the law of this state. These
reports should be made ip order
sold in this county. It is our
desire that the officers see to it
that in this county these reports
are fully and acorately made in
the future.
We have inspected the court
house and jail and find that the
county property is being well
cared for. So far as we have
been able to ascertain there is no
corruption in our public offices.
We wish to express our appre-
ciation for the fact that most of
the indictments returned by us
at this present term have already
been disposed of in a satisfactory
manner. We are glad that our
dockets are being kept clean
We express our regrets that our
honored district judge has been
absent because of sickness in his
immediate family, and express

the hope that he will soon be
able to return to his regular
work. In the absence of our
regular judge we have noticed
with pleasure the satisfactory
manner in which the Hon. J. E.
Garland of Lamesa has handled
the cases on the docket of ou r
court.
We thank the Sheriff, the
bailiffs, the district and county
attorneys and the district judge
for their assistance during our
deliberations. By reason of
their aid we can truthfully state
that our work has been a plea-
sure.
By reason of the increased
traffic on the two main highways
running through the town of
Seminole the hazard to life and
property has greatly increased
at the intersection of these two
roads. We recommend that the
proper authorities place stop
signs on one of these two roads
to decrease the present hazard.
Feeling that our work has been
completed we most respectfully
request of the court that we be
adjourned for the term.
A. J Dow,
Foreman of the Grand Jury.
This the 28th. day of Decem-
ber, 1934 came ou to be heard
