LESSONS FROM
THE BIBLE
BY ROGER TURNER
“God is a Spirit: and they that worshp him must
worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is
truth” (John 17:17).
The preceeding passages show that the Truth must
be obeyed In our worship to God. There are many
people who are sincere in their particuliar acts of
worship, and this will constitute worshiping in the
right “spirit” as far as they are concerned. But,
one of the great things that so many people fail to
recognize is that man is to worship "in truth” and
not only in the right spirit. If we worship in the right
spirit and have not the Truth then our worship is
vain. Or, if we worship according to the Truth and
do so in the wrong spirit, then we are wrong. We
must have both the right “spirit” and this must be
according to, and in harmony with, the Truth. And
remember, Truth is consistent and does not contradict
itself. Also remember that the Truth to which I am
referring is the Word of God. (John 17:17).
Now, if the Word of God upholds all the contradictory
forms or worship in denominationalism, then it is
not the Truth. Truth CANNOT uphold conflicting acts
of worship. For example: If what you believe to be
the truth tells you to use mechanical instruments of
music and then tells another not to use them in worship
then what you believe is NOT the Truth. The Truth
of God cannot lie. Instrumental music in worship is
either right or it is wrong. It is either a part of
righteousness or it is part of unrighteousness. It is
either sin or it is not. THERE IS NO NEUTRAL
GROUND OR IN-BETWEEN when it comes to the
Truth. A thing is either Truth or He!
Now, nowhere in the pages of the New Testament,
which is the words of Christ, the Truth,is there one
Iota of authority for the use of mechanical instru-
ments of music in worship to God. Those who use
it have not one ounce of Bibical Truth and authority
for its use. Since, then, it is not taught, authorized,
upheld, sanctioned, nor commanded in the New Testa-
ment then it is no part of the Truth, and those who use
it are not worshiping in Truth. Regardless of how
sincere you might be, sincerity alone is not enough.
The obedience of Truth must be present also.
Jesus said, “In vain do they worship me, teaching
for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matthew
15:9). Mechanical Instruments of music in worship is
a doctrine of men.
THINK, MY FRIENDS, THINK- and obey the Truth.
Come worship where the Truth is taught-at the
Church of Christ at Birch and Emerald, in Croabyton.
