Bat Busters Beat
Lady Bugs; Weevils
Lose to Crickets
The Bat Busters defeated the
Lady Bugs 5 to 3 in a game
Monday night that saw half the
eight scores in the final inning.
The victory tied the two teams
with four wins each at the top ol
the girls’ softball league.
Winning pitcher for the Bat
Busters was Mary Planks. Lenoir
Chappell and Nonettc Mayei
pitched for the Lady Bugs. Score
at the end of the fourth inning
was 3 to 1 with the Bat Busters
leading.
In Friday night play the Crick-
ets defeated the Roaches 33-10.
Crickets have now won three
games. Winning pitcher was
Mary Ann Hestand. Pam Rich-
ardson pitched for the Roaches.
In the second game Friday
night the Beetles defeated the
Bat Busters 13-12 with Melba
Waljace hurling the victory.
Mary Planks pitched for the los-
ers.
In the first game Monday
night _dhe Crickets defeated the
Boll Weevils 8 to 3. Mary Ar)n
Hestand pitched for the Crickets
and Lynn Maze pitched for the
Boll Weevils.

The Crosbyton Men’s Softball
team, sponsored by Bart Lynch
of Higginbotham-Bartlett, de-
feated Hancock ^Manufacturing
of Lubbock 12-11 Tuesday night
in a game which went into foui
extra innings. They lost to High
land Baptists of Lubbock ~ 1-0
June & in a game that requirea
one extra inning.
The Crosbyton team plans to
play here at the Pony League
park each | Tuesday night. They
also plan to play some games on
Friday and Saturday nights.

The Dodgers behind Philip
Warren’s two hit shutout beat
the Yankees 13*0 and set the
stage for tonight's important
gan.e with the Indians. Winner
tonight will move into first
place.
Keily Cash led the Dodger hit-
ters against Yankee hurler Mick-
ey Givens with three hits and
scoring two runs. Vic Verett and
Tommy Justus had two hits each
for the Dodgers. Freddie Guard-
ian, Joe Stegall, Van May, Doyai
Ellis and Mike Gowens did well
for the Yankees.
In the Nite Cap the Braves
picked up victory number two
with a 14-4 win over the Cardi-
nals. Marc Lowrie, Jimmy Winn,
Jimmy Dunn, Bobby Ferree, Gary
Dunlap and Larry Stewart play-
ed well for the Cardinals. Wayne
Smith, Charles Findley, Bobby
Jones, Roger Criswell and Bobby
Bowers turned in good games for
the Braves. Winning hurler was
Rodney Robertson and the loser
was Mickey Witt.

Miss Judy Brixey spent June
6-15 in El Segundo, CaliL, visit-
ing relatives, Mr. and Mrs. B. J.
Windle, Glenn, Cathy and Patti.
Leaving from the Continental
Airlines Station in Lubbock she
traveled from Lubbock to El Pa-
so by plane where she then tra-
veled on to Los Angeles via air
jet. Miss Brixey enjoyed the at-
tractions at Disneyland, Knott’s
Berry Farm and several other
places of inteiest.
She saw the large auditorium
in Hollywood where the Beatles
will soon appear in July. She
commented, “Officials will close
all flights to teen-agers at the
time of their appearance to ap-
parently prevent some mad Bea-
tle fan scenes and mobs.”
Miss Brixey also enjoyed shop-
ping in Los Angeles. She said,
“Whal was most interesting was
just watching the teen-agers,
California style. The girls seem
to prefer the hoolenany hair-
style while the boys let their
hair grow the entire summer
without a cut.”

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd McGinnes,
Kyle and Kristi, and Mrs. Geneva
Starrett and Cheryl are attending
the state conference of District
and County Clerks being held in
San Antonio this week. Mr. and
Mrs. McGinnes and family left
June 16 and will return Sunday.
Mrs. Starrett and Cheryl will at-
tend a family reunion in Tem-
ple enroute home to Crosbyton.
McGinnes is Crosby County Clerk
and Mrs. StarretL is District
Clerk.

NAMED TO HONOR ROLL
Verna Ann Wheeler, Crosbyton,
has been named to the semester
honor roll at Lubbock Christian
College. To be placed on the hon-
or roll, a student must maintain
a 3.25 grade point average. On’
LCC s 4.0 scale, 4.0 indicates a
straight “A” record, and 3.0 in-
dicates straight “B”.
Mrs. Wheeler was one of 13
from her class of 160 to achieve
the honor. Her grade point aver-
age is 3.86.
