Th* Fanner end the Market
The cotton market hna been
disappointing to thoee who ex
peeled higher pricee to prevail
after tba first of the new year
and to be on an ascending scale
throughout the spring and early
summer, partly as a result of the
short crop and partly a* a result
of the holding movement in the
South.
That expectations have not
been realised is evidenced hy the
fact that quotations for middling
cotton, which were above He st
the beginning of the season,
dropped below 11c in leading
markets, made a spurt above 12c
and then, just when it was sup-
posed the upward movement had
begun in earnest, dropped back
again.
There have been various
causes assigned for the fluctua-
tions and the disappointments
The strike of the cotton opera-
tives in Manchester was played
up strong by the bears and the
emphasis.
The farmer can afford to hold
his cotton several month* for the
difference between lie or 12c and
15c, If he can have the nice*,
sary financial nwistance He
wou'd suffer considerable Im** if
finally compelled to n.*ll at no
higher price than he ciu:d have
obtained when hw p • duct was
first read) for market.
