Be Prepared With Homemade
Gifts Stored In Freezer
Have you ever been embar-
rassed by a friend temporarily
overlooked, who shows up at
your door with a Christmas
gift in hand ? Or by a new
neighbor who just moved in
and has come to greet you with
a Christmas package?
Well, you are not alone, for
in the hectic Christmas shop-
ping scramble, some one is
overlooked. To meet emergen-
cies at the holiday season and
all year 'round, here’s a sug-
gestion from the home econom-
ics director of General Motors’
Frigidaire division.
If you have a refrigerator-
freezer, use a section of the
freezer compartment as a gift
corner. (If it is frost-proof, it
is usually fuss-proof).
When time allows, make cof-
fee cakes, layer cakes, cookies,
candy, fancy rolls, nut bread,
etc. . . . “any food item pre-
pared from a favorite recipe
you’d like to share with your
friends,” says this home econo-
mist. Unsalted nuts are a good
gift item to have on hand, too.
First wrap the foods for
freezing. Moisture-vaporproof
paper or a plastic container can
be used. Then gift-wrap them
on the spot and store the pack-
ages in a corner of the food
freezer compartment.
You may use any type of gift
wrapping paper, flocked, met-
allic or even tissue paper and
your ribbon can be most elabo-
rate with even small favors or
trinkets attached. They will not
be damaged or moistened in
your frostless freezer, while
the food inside them is being
protected. The packages will be
easy to identify and handle.
So, this Christmas, set aside
a corner of your freezer com-
partment as the gift corner and
continue to restock it. There
will be countless occasions
throughout the year when
these homemade goodies will
be welcome gifts.
