Gordon and Mary Anne Walk-
er of 5135 Beechnut in Meyer-
land have been on the big social
whirl the past few weeks prior
to their taking off August 1 for
California where they will make
their home.
The John Sallys entertained
them with a Hollywood party
with all the guests dressed as
Hollywood characters (as oppos-
ed to Hollywood stars!) and
from all reports there were some
real doozies! Hank Hagen came
as Sophie Tucker and, of course,
brought down the house. Mae
West was there, too, and Hopa-
long Cassidy (without the
horse), Bing Crosby, Lupe Velez,
Jackie Gleason and many others.
Mary Anne was entertained at
a luncheon last Thursday at
Willowlsp Country Club, hostes-
sed by Mrs. R. S. Hopper The
Jack Chaneys gave a dinner
party for the Walkers recently
and Mary Anne’s bridge club
gave a luncheon at Memorial
Drive Country Club and pre-
sented her with a gift. All in all,
I’m sure the Walkers are hating
to leave this “ gay” town . . . but
to make them feel better I’ll re-
mind them that the parties will
stop when they leave!! At any
rate, they will simmer back
down to normal.
houseful of company for a month
and everyone left last week.
Dot’s mother was here and also
two of her sisters and their fam-
ilies . . . seven guests, all told.
Guess they had a wonderful
time and Dot carried on as if
there were nothing to it!! And
no tranquillizers!!
J. Wright and Barbara Wilson
and their three, Lynn, Charlotte
and Jay, are in Mobile, Ala-
bama visiting J. Wright’s sister.
They took their boat along so
will be spending some time out
in the bay.
Mrs. John Secontine, Gloria
Dulworth’s mother, has been
here for the past month to visit
Gloria and “Jake” and her two
grandchildren, Mark, 2, and
little Tracy who is just about a
month old. Mr. Secontine was
expected to arrive this past
week-end to spend a week or so
in Houston and then he and
Mrs. Secontine will return to
their home in Detroit, Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mentzer
and five-year-old Bobbie arriv-
ed from Youngstown, Ohio, this
Monday to visit at the John
Sallys, 4301 Waycross. Mrs.
Mentzer is John Sally's sister.
Shirley Showalter and Betty
Harrison
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kershner,
5123 Darnell, entertained their
son Louis and his wife Pat with
several lovely parties during
their recent visit here. The
younger Kershners were enroute
to Hawaii on an all-expense
paid trip given as a salesman-
ship prize by the Kaiser Alumi-
num Company with whom Louis
is associated.
coaches who gave so much of
their time to helping them; so
lets all turn out to see these
games and show he kids how
great we think they are.
Collegiate football attendance
record is 120,000 set by Notre
Dame vs. Southern California at
Soldiers Field, Chicago, in 1927.
The Jack Blancos are back
from a grand and glorious vaca-
tion (and they know how to take
a vacation!) to the Grand Tetons,
Yellowstone National Park, and
all points of interest out that-
away. Am sure they didn’t miss
a thing. They took a ride on a
ski tow that Jeanette described
as something out of this world,
after she got up the courage to
sneak a look downward and
relax her grip on the poles
somewhat! Even ten-year-old
Barbara and thirteen-year-old
Janet weren't afraid and got a
big thrill out of it.
Roger and June Darby proud-
ly announce the arrival of their
first baby ... a boy! Mark Les-
lie was born Monday, July 22 at
St. Luke’s Hospital weighing six
lbs. three ounces . . . not so tiny
considering he came a month
early! Mama and Mark came
home Saturday and were greet-
ed by Roger’s mother who came
from Dallas to meet her grand-
son and help the Darbys with
their new arrival.
Sally McKnight has just com-
pleted a course at the Benz
School of Floral Design and will
have her own shop in the new
group of seven stores expected
to be ready by September in
the area across from the doctors
offices on Post Oak Road. Sally
will be equipped to handle wed-
dings, funerals, etc., and will
carry a varied line of gifts and
cards, Sally is well known in
Houston for her work in the
Hemerocallis Society and the
Westbury Methodist Garden
Club. One of her recent projects
out here was the planting of day
lilies on Willow Bend Blvd. in
preparation for the Hemerocallis
convention to be held here in
1958.
It must seem quiet at Dot and
Don Ottosens . . . they had a
