Make Adjustment
Mr. Ehlers said the company
had agreed to make a $17 adjust-
ment in the bill for tents and
ground cloths after the merch-
andise proved to be of inferior
quality. He said the company a-
greed to issue a credit memo for
the $17 but failed to do so and
that parents of boys in the Scout
group declined to put enough
money in the special account at
the Bank of the Southwest on
which the check had been writ-
ten until they had some guar-
antee in writing that the $17
credit would be allowed. Mr.
Ehlers said he called the bank to
stop payment on the check and
told that he would have to
come down and sign.
“I wasn’t able to get down to
the bank right away and in the
meantime the check went thro-
ugh,” he said.
Mr. Ehlers said that Kiwanis
Club leaders were to confer with
the district attorney’s office
Tuesday afternoon to present
the facts in the case.
Phone Call
Mr. Ehlers said that at the
police station he was at first
told he could nol make a tele-
phone call but was later told he
might do so — and called the
clerk of Judge Ragan’s court
where the charge against him
was filed.
“I explained the situation to
him and he said he would call
me back in five minutes. I gave
him the extension number and
was just getting the operator
back to call my wife when an
officer took me by my arm and
said “one call is all you get.” I
explained to him that the court
clerk was supposed to call me
back in five minutes but he
wouldn’t let me wait,” Mr. Eh-
lers said.
Released On Bond
He said he was put in a cell
with five other people.
