service to the Treasury De-
partment’s School Savings Pro-
gram.
In a letter to the postmaster,
Johnson said, ‘‘Today, the
School Savings Program is
more important than ever. Our
children are growing up In a
world of tension, of conlliet

are ever increasing If they
are to reap the full benefits of
their American hertlage they
must be prepared to meet these
challenges; they must be given
from 10c to $5, are on sale at
all times in the post office
and on Stamp Day in schools.
As pupils fill their albums —
which are provided free —
they exchange them for U. S
Savings Bonds at their bank.
Postmaster Cullers said, “We
are proud to offer this service
to our young people. I know
of no better way to teach
thrift and civic responsibility
than by encouraging our youth
to buy Savings Stamps and
Bonds This it one way they
all can share in America."

Mrs. Louis Hudgens, 58, of
Johnson, Kan., sister of Joe
Williams ol this city, died
about 7:30 pin. Tuesday in
die leukemia hospital, Wichi-
ta, Kan, She had been a vic-
tim of leukemia for several
years.
Funeral arrangements were
pending Wednesday morning.
Burial will be in Johnson,
where she w» born and spent
all of her iile
Mrs. Hudgens had visited
her brother here many times.
Survivors include her hus-
band, ol the home, two sons,
Bill of Socorro, N M., and
Kenneth of Johnson; three
brothers and one sister.
Mr. and Mrs Jerry Cogswell
of Kansas City, Mo., visited
Saturday with his grandfather,
S W Groves and aunts Mrs
Sylvia Johnson and Merita
Bumpers Mr Cogswell grew up
in Shamrock and is a pilot for
TWA, flying out of Kansas
City.

children, Daren and Don, o!
Camdenton, Mo., visited last

Postmaster John Cullers an-
nounced earlier this week that
rural mail carriers would begin
distributing 1967 Acreage Sur-
vey Cards to patrons on their
routes today (Thursday.
The Post Office Department
assists the U. S. Department
of Agriculture in making this
survey each year. These re-
ports, directly from farmers,
are the basis for official esti-
mates for Texas acreage of all
crops harvested in 1967.
To be sure this community is
well ■ represented in the ur-
vey, Postmaster Cullers urges
each patron receiving a card
to fill it out and return it to
his mailbox
Rural mail carriers working
on this project are:

roy Wall, Route 2: Neal I til-
ham, Route 3; and Mrs Jua-
