Memphis classing office has
classed 12,000 samples which is
two-thirds of the number class-
ed a year ago, stated K. E.
Voelkel, in charge of the local
office, in 1961, approximately
120,000 samples had been
classed. These figures Indicate
the lateness In harvesting the
1966 crop.
The quality of cotton classed
last week showed that the
grades were somewhat lower,
the staple length slightly long-
er and the mlcronalre readings
practically tjie same as com-
pared with the week earlier.
The most significant change In
grades was the increase in the
spotted and tinged cotton due
primarily to the harvesting of
cotton that was affected by the
hard freeze. Freezing of young,
pounds per square inch and
above. Other groupings were;
75.000 - 79,000, 32 percent;
70.000 - 74,000, 18 percent; and
69.000 pounds and below, 36
perrent.
Average prices paid growers
during the week for some of
the predominant qualities In the
3.5 - 4.9 micronalre range were:
strict low middling white,
15/16 - 18.70c, middling light
spotted, 15/16 - 18.90c; strict
low middling light spotted,
15/16 - 17.90c; and middling

would not otherwise receive.
It will also help keep the
schools posted as to the- latest
findings in educational re-
search and recent successful
Innovations helping to maxe
better school programs In other
places.
Among those things preview-
ed at the conference were: a
new approach to the teaching
of history; the abundance of
teaching aids available to
schools from the NASA pro-
ject; and the growing move-
ment of the non-graded pri-
mary school._
