Farmer Had A
Sense of Humor
An Illinois farmer received a
bulletin from the agricultural
department giving him 12 pages
of advice about how to balance
bis farm budget. This farmer,
having some sense of humor,
sent it back and wrote that when
the gjvernment balanced its
budget he wouid be willing to
consider advice from one of its
departments, He added, how-
ever, that he had no way to bor-
row money to meet his wants
and no power to tax anybody to
raise funds that already he
economized to the poiut of only
having oue pair of overalls with-
out a stitch of underclotbiDg
and his .wife was wearing to
church a patched dress she made
in 1921, that the department
need not bother about him aDd
his budget, that stern necessity
had balanced it for life. He
closed by suggesting a pamphlet
addressed to congress on the
budget balancing matter. —Mai•
