Where will the interurban re-
sort be located, at Lancaster or
some place not convenient to
Lancaster citizens? It is up to
our people to get busy and se-
cure some park grounds.
The city council has bad some
good hard work done on the
drain back of the meat markets,
and we believe that the health, of
that community will be m less
danger as a result of this work.

The Henderson County Farm-
ers' Union adopted the following
reasonable resolution at a recent
meeting of the organization:
“Resolved, That we demand of
our candidates for the Legisla-
ture that they bear all sides be-
fore they pledge to support any
particular law which they may
be asked to support and we in-
sist tbat the farmers’ side, as
?: i
well as other sides, be heard be-
fore any new laws are passed.”
It has been remarked a num-
ber of times the past week that
if Lancaster needs any thing it
■i as a hotel. Strangers in our town
have a hard time Ending places
to lodge. People from tbe city
are already hunting rooms and
board for their familes during
the summer months, and con-
stantlv the complaint is being
nade, Lancester has no room
tave for her own people. Travel-
og men coming into town are
put to the inconvenience ot bust-
l for a room after finding
table board. This does not give
me an at home feeling and gives
the town tbe name of doing
things on a small scale.

The opening of the Galveston
causeway is taking great num-
bers of-people to tbe Island City.
The Galveston Tribune issued
on Thursday, the 16th, a “Cause-
way Edition” of ninety oages, il-
lustrating well the city in all its
interests. Tbe Tribune of Sat-
urday, Sept. 8, 1900, was the last
paper published before the ter-
rible storm which swept the is-
lands The Tribune of that date
and tbe Causeway Edition of the
Tribune compare very favorably
with tbe city of that date and
the Galveston of today. The
building of the strong seawall,
the raising of the grade of -the
city, and last but by no means
least, the connecting of the city
with tbe mainland with this
great and fndestructible cause-
way, shows the material from
which the people of the city are
made. There may be larger
cities in Texas but there is not
one more interesting nor more
hospitable, and the Tribune is a
factor in this city building.
A chain ,of circumstances
caused an occurence in religious
circles in Lancaster Sunday
which had not been known in
Lancaster for years, possibly
since the very early history of
the town. There was no preach-
ing service in the white churches,
either in the morning or night.
Dr. S. A. McElroy was on the
sick list and this accounted for
the pulpit at the Presbyterian
church not being filled. The
Methodist minister was out of
town assisting m a revival meet-
ing and the gentleman who was
to supply the pulpit failed to
come: The Christian congrega-
tion are without a pastor, and
the church failed to secure a
supply. The Baptist church is
without a pastor, and the mem*
bership held a conference with a
view of securing one, and thus
there was no preaching. It was
strange how many dates were
made for church at night by
gentlemen who have not bad a
reputation as church goers, and
how many disappointed people
there were in town Monday over
the fact there had been no preach-
v
ing service for them to attend
the previous day. Strange, we
say, when we think of the many
vacant seats, in our churches
during the past tew months.
There will be preaching in Lan-
caster next Sunday, probably in
every church in town. Read the
local columns for announcements
and attend the services at one of
the houses of worship.

from the race on account of his
health. Mr. Clark said anent
the assistance Mr. McCutcheon
had lent him ^during his term of
office:
“I have announced my with-
drawal from the race and, boy, I
want you to make the race and
keep up tbe wonderful record
you have made for me. It al-
most breaks my heart to take
tbe step I am taking. My pbysi*
cal condition is such that I must
act at once and I have decided in
your favor. Make the race, Car-
rie. The people know what you
have done, and I am for you.”

W. C. T. U. Notes.
At the called meeting, of the
Union held at tbe Presbyterian
church Tuesday afternoon, of-
ficers and superintendents were
nominated for the coming yeftr.
At the regular meeting to be
held at the Baptist church nexf
Tuesday* at 4 o’clock, these Offi-
cers will be* duly elected and in-
stalled. It is earnestly requested
that every member be piriesent,
and assist in this service.
The nnion is now started on
its third year, and the annual
dues for members whose mem-
bership begin with the year are
now payable. Members who en-
rolled later can ascertain their
standing by consulting the sec-
retary. Mrs. D. P. Mauldea.
We will miss our Mothers'
meeting this month as our .super-
intendent, Mrs. Chas. Barker,
was unable to give the time to
preparing the program. She has
made an excellent superinten-
dent and her meetings have al-
ways resulted in renewed enthu-
siasm and interest. Her re-
election will be unanimously ap-
proved.
There is every reason, and
very special reason, for extra
and earnest effort to be put forth
in onr work this year. The cit-
izenship of Lancaster is chang-
ing, and it will change greatly
within the next twelve months.
It mav be necessary to educate
many of tbe new citizens to the
Lancaster idea of a clean town,
and to do this we must create a
more active sentiment against
the evils which may be brought
to our city. It is better and
'Safer to educate and create a
sentiment against an eyil, and to

enjoyed. The members of the

to every | suggestion offered;
which probly means there will
be other invitations.
