they loved not their lives unto the
death."
COMMENTS
The opening verses of this 12th
chapter tell of two “wonders’’ that
appeared in Heaven, and we find
John back in Heaven, seeing things
from God's standpoint These wond-
ers are symbols of something, the
first being u sun-clothed woman, and
the second a great red dragon, "hav-
ing seven heads and ten horns, and
seven crowns upon his heads.” The
woman is the symbol of Israel; she is
described as “being with child”, and
travailing to bring forth, for it was
through that nation Jesus Christ came
forth. The identity of this "man
child" is established beyond controv-
ersy by the fact that He is caught up
unto God and His throne, and is dest-
ined to rule the nations with a rod
of iron. The great red dragon, of
devil, and Satan, which deceived the
whole world," John tells us he stood
before the sun-clothed woman ready
to devour her child as soon as it was
born, and of course we know how God
protected the babe Jesus from Herod’s
cruel decree.
In verse 7 wv read: "And there
was war in Heaven: Michael and his
angels fought against the dragon;
and the dragon fought and his angels.
And prevailed not; neither ns their
place found any more in Heaven. And
the great dragon was cust into tho
earth, and his angels were cast out
with him." Michael is the only
nivhangel of which the Scriptures
speak. From the Book of Daniel wo
leant that he stands in a peculiar re-
lation to Israel, somewhat in the role
of guardian. We observe that tho
war in Heaven takes place at the
half-way point of the seven years of
tribulation; it is started by the at-
tempt to expel the dragon and his
angels from the llcavenlies. Our
Lord spoke to this very event when he
said: “I beheld Satan as lightning
