Summer fishing is living up to its
reputation in the Coastal Bend with
all docks reporting great catches.
Using ribbonfish for bait, a 37-
pound kingfish was one of the big-
ger fish brought in to the dock at
Offshore Adventures, said Beverly
Stapleton. Atlantic sharpnose shark,
lane, vermilion and red snapper, bar-
racuda, ling, kingfish and strawberry
grouper also were caught. Limits
of specks and reds were caught in
the bays on menhaden, croaker, live
shrimp and perch.
The longer trips are producing big
yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, grouper
and more for anglers out of Dolphin
Dock, said Ryan Janz. A 70-pound,
along with smaller, amberjack, big
sharks, kingfish, barracuda, red snap-
per, wahoo, ling, grouper and limits of
smaller shark are all being caught off
boats returning to this dock.
“Fishing has been wonderful,” said
Rick Laros, for anglers out of Deep
Sea Headquarters. A 51-pound
ling was caught on the Pelican; a
100-pound hammerhead shark was
caught on the Gulf Eagle and a 110-
pound sandbar shark was caught on
the Kingfisher. The five-hour trips are
“knocking ‘em dead”, returning with
lots of kingfish and shark. Private
charters of eight, 10 and 12-hours also
are catching limits of red snapper,
kingfish and shark. Eight-hour open
boat trips have fishermen limiting out
on kings and shark. In the bay, trout
and redfish still dominate.
Leesa Bonner of Woody’s Sports
Center reported good fishing, with
anglers reeling in dog snapper, red
snapper, kingfish, ling, dolphin, bar-
racuda, shark and a lone blackfin tuna.
Bay guides are turning fishermen on to
redfish and trout and some black drum.
Island Queen anglers are catching
Spanish mackerel, jackfish, kingfish,
trout and shark.

Fishing in Redfish Bay recently were Dwight Runkels of Austin,
from left, Andrew Clark of San Antonio, Tommy Wright of Austin,
Kealy Green of College Station, deckhand David Milina, Capt. Ralph
Ray, Tom Wright of San Antonio and Jack Richards of Austin. The
anglers caught three limits of redfish using menhaden and hung
their catch at Woody’s Sports Center.
