Miss Simmons Wed

The marriage of Miss Mary-
cmma Simmons and Clayton Wil-
liams was solemnized last Thurs-
day evening. The ceremony was
read by the Rev. Father Austin
under an improvised altar of
gladioli and asters in the garden
of the Simmons home on E.
Broadway. The bridal party en-
tered as Miss Jean Fisher,
pianist and Miss Katherine Carter,
violinist, played Lohengrin’s Wed-
ding March. They also played “At
Dawning” as the nuptial vows
were taken.
Miss Betty Simmons, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor and
■wore a green gown. Her bouquet
was yellow chrysanthemums. The
bridesmaids, Miss Mildred Wil-
liams of Elk City, Okla., and Miss
Dorothy Blevins of Franklin, La.,
wore gold and blue taffeta frocks
and carried arm bouquets of roses
and yellow gladioli.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, wore a
close-fitting white satin gown. A
half-length veil was held in place
with sprays of orange blossoms.
The bride’s bouquet of bride’s
roses and lilies of the valley was
presented to her mother. The bride
wore a brooch given to her mother
hy her father at their wedding.
The groom was attended by his
brother, Orville Williams of Elk
City, Okla. J. W. Simmons, Jr., of
Dallas and Alvin Kendrick were
groomsmen.
Mrs. Williams is the oldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. M.
Simmons. She received her B. A.
degree from Incarnate Word Col-
lege, San Antonio, *nd taught in
the Lubbock school last year.
Mr. Williams is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Williams of Elk
City. He attended the University
of Oklahoma and is a member of
the Sigma Nu fraternity. He is
connected with the Williams-Miller
Gin Co. here.
A reception was held following
the ceremony. The table was cov-
ered with a cloth of cut work. The
cake, made in a ring, was set on
a mirror plaque and filled with
roses. Sprays of lilies of the val-
ley were iced around the cake.

METHODIST SOCIETY IN
BUSINESS MEETING
Mrs. Joe Boothe presided at the
monthly business meeting of the
missionary society at the Metho-
dist church Monday. Circle reports
were received. The Rev. J. H.
Hamblen was a guest and urged
attendance at the revival begin-
ning Wednesday. Mrs. J. C. Mor-
ris, Jr., gave a report from the
zone meeting held in Roby Thurs-
day. Mrs. K. M. Camp reviewed
“The Never Failing Light,” new
study book. Mrs. B. N. Roberts
was leader for the program. Mrs.
C. K. Griggs discussed “Forces At
Work in Japan.”
Next Monday the calendar club
will meet at the home of Mrs. A.
H. Fortner with her weeks assis-
tant hostesses.

Mrs. Chas. McLain and her
daughter, Mrs. T. H. Webb of Aus-
tin, former Sweetwater residents,
have been complimented with a
number of parties since their ar-
rival in the city. Mrs. C. E. Mays
and Mrs. John Hubbard were hos-
tesses for a barbecue at the Mays
cottage “Casa Laguna” at Lake
Sweetwater Friday evening.

Mrs. Stell is a member of
prominent ranch family near Sny-
der. The couple left immediately!
after the ceremony for Chicago
and upon their return they will
be at home on the Stell ranch near
Maryneal.

MEETS AT CHURCH
The Presbyterian Auxiliary met
at the church Monday afternoon
with nine members present. Mrs.
C. A. McCorkle presided. Mrs. C.

The Auxiliary will send two teach-
ers to the school of instruction in
Abilene next week to study “Am-
bassadors Supreme,” the year
book of the Auxiliary. Mrs. David
