The Adult Uteracy/ESL class will meet
at the County-City Library on Wednesday,
Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. Instructors will help
you learn to read, improve your English
skills, or help you read to your children.

Thursday, Oct. 1
Retired School Employees
The Rolling Plains Unit of Retired
School Employees will meet at 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, Oct. 1,2009, at the Sweetwater
Country Club. The meal will be followed
by a program and business meeting. All
retired school employees from Nolan and
Fisher Counties are invited to attend and
be a part of the monthly meetings on the
first Thursday of each month.
Blood Drives
There will be two blood drives in
Sweetwater on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009,
from noon until 6 p.m. One bloodmo-
bile will be parked in the Nolan County
Courthouse parking lot. A second blood-
mobile will be parked in front of the Lions
Club building located at 1501 Lamar.
Each donor will receive a T-shirt and a
free total cholesterol test.
Story Hour
Story Hour at the County-City Library
for parents and their children will be held
on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 10:45 a.m. Dee
Ann Mulanax will lead the parents and
children in stories and songs. Call 235-

Saturday, Oct. 3
Rhema Valley Speaker
Rhema Valley will be hosting a special
presentation given by speaker Bruce Rapp
of Jews for Jesus. Rapp will be speak-
ing on “Gospel in the Feasts of Israel."
Admission is free at 6 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 3, at Rhema Valley Family Church,
located at 3304 E. Broadway

Membership Drive
The American Legion Post 227 in
Roscoe will be holding its annual mem-
bership drive on Saturday, Oct. 3 begin-
ning at 3 p.m. at the American Legion
building in Roscoe. A meal will be served
at 6 p.m., and all members and potential
members are encouraged to attend this
function and socialize.

A benefit dance for Brooke Roberts
Bailey and her children will be held on
Saturday, Oct. 3rd beginning at 7 p.m.
The dance will be held at the Jaycee
Barn located at 4th St. and Cypress in
Sweetwater. Brisket sandwiches will be
sold for $5.00. Live music by Blaze of
Glory will be featured from 9 p.m. until
midnight. There will be a $5 cover charge
and a $5 cooler charge. The dance is
B.Y.O.B.
Quilt Show
Midland Quilters Guild is hosting its
2009 Quilt Show, Threads of Our Past:
Celebrating 30 years on Saturday, Oct.
3, at the Midland Center (105 N. Main)
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adults are $5;
Seniors $3; 12 years and under free.
There will be over 250 quilts displayed,
a Quilters1 Market, silent auction, quilt
appraiser, "Down Memory Lane" exhibit
covering 30 years of MQG history, 14
vendors and a beautiful raffle quilt. There
will also be a drop off box for the Lion's
Club Eye Bank.

Big Country' Dance
The Big Country Dance will take place
from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5,
2009, at the Nolan County Coliseum
Annex. Entertainment will be provided
by Muddy Creek. Admission is $5 per
person.
Tuesday, Oct. 6
Let's Talk Books
Let's Talk Books, the book club of the
County-City Library, will meet at noon
on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, in the meeting
room at the library. The book selection
is "A Personal Country," by A.C. Greene.
Sack lunches will be provided for the first
12 people for a $4 donation. Call 235-

Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 will
have a called meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday,
Oct, 6, 2009, to confer a Master degree.

SHS Picture Day
Student pictures will be taken on
Thursday, Oct. 8th at the Sweetwater
High School. Information packets will be
sent home with students. Senior re-take
pictures will also be held that day. For

FFA Hamburger Supper
The Sweetwater FFA will host a ham-
burger supper from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday,
Oct. 9, 2009, at the Sweetwater High
School cafeteria. The cost of the meal
will be $7 and w ill include a hamburger,
fixins, beans, potato salad, cobbler and
tea or coffee.

Class of 1943
The 1943 graduating class from
Newman High School in Sweetwater
will have a reunion Oct. 9-10. Friday
evening the group will meet at the old
Carlos Morris Home, 907 E 3rd Street,
beginning at 4 p.m. Snacks will be pro-
vided by Toppv and Mariellen Pepper
Lee of Forsytn, MT. Saturday morning at
9 a.m.. the group will re-convene at the
Morris Home for a Continental breakfast
Angel Fund available at SHS
Sweetwater High School has available
an Angel Fund to provide educational
assistance to SHS students. The fund will
allow contributions to be made in honor
or memory of a loved one. An acknowl-
provided by Sarah Baucom Hampton of edgement card will be sent to the person
Sweetwater. At 12:30 p.m. lunch has been or family designated by the contributor,
arranged at Buck’s Steaks and Bar-B-Que,

the luncheon will be John McLaughlin of
Garland, class president in 1943. Other

burglaries in Sweetwater.
Sometime Monday night,
May 4, or early Tuesday
morning, May 5, unknown
person(s) entered
unlocked vehicles in an
area of the northeast part
of Sweetwater and stole
several items. Taken in the
burglaries were checks, cell
phones, a laptop comput-
er, and iPod and a hand-
gun. Crime Stoppers will
