A very short time ago, Richard
Cromwell was an unknown aspir-
ant for motion picture work. Now
lie is in the full glare'of the ?pot:
light. It all happened because he
was selected for the important stel-
lar and title role in the all-talking
version of “Tol’-ahle David,” Jos-
eph Hergesheimer’s prize story.
The film is coming to the Palace
Theatre today for 2 days.
Richard Cromwell, an art student,
without any motion picture exper-1
ience but with tremendous ambit-1
Ion, applied in the usual way, hav-
ing heard of the opportunity Colum-
bia offered.
He passed a first inspection and
proceeded to Hie crucial “screen
tests." Cromwell was probably the
most astounded person in Holly-
wood when he was summoned to
the - ffice of Harry Cohn, the pro-
ducer, and notified that he had
been selected from all the appli-
cants.
His first act was to telephone his
motlu-r. who was employed in an
office at Long Beach, California,
end ask timt she come immediately
to sign the contract, Cromwell be-
ing tinder ’age. His mother answer-
ed that.she was taking dictation
from her employer.
‘Never mind your jrili there'
■ mother,” answered Cromwell "You'
won’t have to work any more.’’
Richard Cromwell is nineteen^
years old, of average height, ,11a
has light brown hair.
