The chamber of commerce i* doing all that It can to aid In
•ecuring a road on the east bank of tho Sabine river in LoulaiOna
pom the proposed crossing opposite Orange to high land on tho
other side of the marsh, according to officers of that organization,
it r. ms without saying that a rond must be assured before work
can be started on a bridge, and a few facta concerning both pro-
jects may prove interesting.
Calcasieu parish voted a special tax over a period of three
years, to yield 1150.000.00. which has now been paid. This
Whs intended to care for the road from Vinton to the Sabine river
including their portion of the bridge. It.ti anticipated that
the state and federal government will participate B0 per cent
or more which will make 3300,000.00. FlrBt cost of the bridgo
wa:j placed at 3200,000.00. Orange county was to put up
150,000.00, the plate of Texan and federal government jointly
another $50,000.00. It was then found out that the bridge
would cost only $187,600.00 and at the last conference held at
I$il;e Charles -tt was decided that in-as-much as Calcasieu parish
,J>ad voted $150,000.00 for the road and they had the heavy part
| ti lbd>expenditure, that the city of Orange put up$37,500.00 which
