scrap!
As usual this paper was right—
but we couldn’t get enough votes.
That was all we lacked!
But between a combination of
those '‘brother’s keeper” who think
we shouldn’t be permitted to drink
anything and those willing to them-
selves drink anything and taae it any-
way they can get it, those ot us who
want to ngulate our own drinking
and do it in a frank, open and legal-
ized way, just simply didn't have
the votes!
And that ought to be enough to
say about the National and state
election.
Elsewhere there are tabulated re-
turns of how the contested places
went in the county. If interested
look them up. We tried to get them
correct, but in the general rush of
things there may be errors.
If so you fellows who know how
we stood—and who didn’t?—know
darn well it isn’t because we’ve been
celebrating!
In the meantime, we are still for
Smith—until an abler fighter ar *s
—and 1D32 is only four years off!
between two eternities. He filled a
responsible position for many years
through their confidence in his in-
tegrity and he earned that confidence
through a faithful performance of
the duties imposed upon him. Mr.
Kempf had only two opponents for
the office of Clerk during his incum-
bency.
He will be sa lly missed and many
there are who mourn his passing.

Following the death of District
Clerk August Kempf in San Antonio
Friday of ! r*‘ week, friends of Mr.
Emil Britsch who was serving as Dep-

name for e ection to the office at
last Tuesday’s election. Hundreds of
his friends -ver the county wrote his
name on tne ballot, scratching Mr.

question about the legality of h’9
election and accordingly he is elected
to the office which he is already fill-

a voter heave : a sigh of sorrow as
he for the first time scratched the
name of August Kempf on a ballot,
but Medina County is fortunate in
having a,-, a is successor so deserving
a young in a and one so eminently
qualified for the position as is Mr.
