TOTHE EDITOR
Dear Editor:
The June 21 edition of The
Texan slated that the City
Council had approved a
Neighborhood Watch pro-
gram. in which citizens work
with each other and the
police to prevent residential
burglaries.
This is not correct. The
Council did hear a report on
the program from coordina-
tor Inez Stewart, but they
took no action. Mrs. Stew
art had asked the Council to
show its support for the
program by purchasing
decals (approximately $300)
to be used by residents to
warn burglars that a Neigh
borhood Watch program, in
cooperation with the Bel
laire Police Department,
was in effect. The home-
owner or renter would pay
six cents for the decal, and
the money collected would
be used to reimburse the
City.
I hope that you will soon
be able to report that the
Council has indeed given its
support to the program.
Results of Neighborhood
Watch in other communities
prove that it does drama
tically reduce burglaries..
To be effective this city-
side program needs city-
wide support, and the appro-
val and assistance of the
City Council would be a
great help to the program.

the “King’s Kids".
Struska - Martin
The Kids have had plenty
of practice visiting door-to-
door, holding bible schools,
singing and traveling
throughout the country on
their bus. In 1976, they
traveled to Erie, Pennsyl-
vania and held two five-day
bible schools for the children
of the small rural townships
outside of Erie. The Kids
efforts strengthened their
small host church. Since
then, it has started another
church for the people of the
community.
