Drama "Red Eye of Love”

The University of Houston Dra-
ma Department will present five
productions during the 1969-70
season.
Opening the new season at 8:30
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Cul-
len Auditorium will be Arnold
Weinstein’s “Red Eye of Love,”
directed by Dr. David Larson of

the UH drama faculty. General
admission is $1.50 with student
tickets at $1. The play will be
repeated on Thursdayand Friday,
Oct. 23-24 at Cullen with the
same curtain time.
Next on the schedule is Goe-
the’s “Faust,” Part I, with di-
rection by Doerte Egilsson. The
classic will be presented at the
Attic Theatre in the Ezekiel Cul-
len Building, Nov. 18-26 and Dec.
2-6.
The department returns to con-
temporary drama and Cullen Au-
ditorium Feb. 18-21 with (Repro-
duction of Eugene Ionesco’s "Exit
The King.” Dr. Sidney Berger
will direct.
An original play by and under
the direction of Dr. David Larson,
longtime head of the drama de-
partment and now associate pro-
fessor of drama, will be per-
formed March 19-21 in Cullen
Auditorium.
For the season’s finale Dr.
Berger will direct "Threepenny
Opera,” by Bertold Brecht and
Kurt Weill. Performance dates
are May 6-9 at Cullen Auditorium.
Ballet Group
Will Offer
Scholarships
At a recent meeting of the
Board of Directors of the Met-
ropolitan Ballet Concert Group,
$1,000 was set aside in the bud-
get for the 1969-70 Season for
Scholarships.
The scholarships are offered
as an aid for serious ballet stu-
dents interested in either a pro-
fessional career or a major in
dance in college.
No pre-requisites for applica-
tion were set down by the board,
but dancers should be at least 14
years of age.

istered for the 13 prizes given away by First National Bank of
Belliare. After six years of operation, the bank reports deposits
of more than $10,000,000.

The sophomore and junior
classes elected officers Friday,
Sept. 26. The sophomore run-
offs are Don Blaicher/John Lit-
tle, president; Barbie Ball/Deb-
bie Hruska, vicepresident; Betsy
Major/Marty Zinkgraf, secre-
tary; and Pam Millican/Candy
Young, treasurer.
The junior run-offs are Rick
Boudreaux/Tim Daughtry, presi-
dent; Candy Brady/Arlene Free-
man vice president; Lauren By-
nes/Trudy Hilton, secretary; and
Mary Ball/Donna Thurston, trea-
surer.
Senior class officers were
elected last spring.
On Friday, Sept. 12, the stu-
dent body elected Student Council
members. The senior members
are David Bromberg, Terry Crow
Linda Phenix, Marcia Redifer,
Johnny McLaren, Karen Narum,
Ann Rosenblath, Mike Scott, Dede
Sheffield and Terrie Wyatt.
Juniors selected Mary Ball,
Candy Brady, Lauren Bynes, Ar-
lene Freeman, Lee Ann Hennes-
see, Trudy Hilton, David Holt,
Jay Millis, Tom Tinsley and Bry-
an Whitten.
The sophomores chose Richard
Brown, Debbie Dunn, Roxie Edee,
John Little, Debbie McCants, Roy
Meredith, Steve Milton, Judy
Whitten, Candy Young and Marty
Zinkgraf to the Student Council.
The Student Council officers are
Terry Dunken, president; Bruce
Henley, vice president; Vivian
Hicks, secretary; Vicki Hall,
treasurer and Lee Griffin, par-
lamentarian. The sponsor is Mr.
William Wagisbach.
The Student Senate, headed by
chairman Monica Garrison, filled
holes in the shell parking lot with
the assistance of Mr. Fred Pep-
per, assistant principal, on Sat-
urday. Sept. 13.
The paved student parking lot
has been improved. Thedirtarea
on the south side of the main
parking lot was blacktopped to
cover 100 more parking spaces.
The preparation of the lot took
10 days and was finished last

Dr. Donald G. Low, director of
clinics at the University of Min-
nesta, will be the guest speaker
at the monthly meeting of the
Harris County Veterinary Assn.,
Oct. 2 at the GEO Club. Dr.
Low, a noted educator, author
and scientist will discuss Kideny
diseases in the dog.

the mud hole that existed when-
ever there was the slightest hint
of rain.
The band led by drum major,
Skipper Naylor, dedicated its
drill to the Rebelettes, cheer-
leaders and Rebel Guards at the
pre-game performance Thurs-
day, Sept. 25. Musical arrange-
ments included Dixie, When John-
ny Comes Marching Home, Hey
Look Me Over, and Westbury
School Song.
Led by Col. Kay Howard, the
Rebelettes began their college
drill by marching on to the field
to The Aggie War Hymn. This
half time performance on Sept.
25 was dedicated to graduating
seniors and the colleges they will
attend next fall. The Rebelettes
performed military maneuvers to
Fight For Rice and Good Ole
Baylor Line while the twirlers
under head twirler PattiScholze,
presented their routine. The drill
squad formed “Srs. 70” during
Saints, SMU fight song. To Texas
Fight, the Reserves, headed by
Lt. Col. Terrie Wyatt, used red
and blue discs to create patterns
and the Flag Corps, led by Cap.
Brenda Diggs, performed. The
Rebelettes left the field to U. of H.
Fight Song. This performance sa-
luted the trumpets and comets of
the Bugle Corps.
TOM KENNEDY of 8306 Brae
Acres Rd. will be a delegate to
the third annual National Youth
Conference on Mental Retarda-
tion, at the Americana Hotel,
Miami Beach, Fla., Oct. 9-12.
YOUTH-NARC, sponsor of the
convention, has arranged for Mrs.
Patricia Hitt, secretary of HEW
to be the keynote speaker.
YOUTH-NARC is a national or-
ganization of young people dedi-
cated to volunteer service to
the mentally retarded. Sponsor-
ed by the National Assn, for Re-
tarded Children, YOUTH -
ARC’ers serve as friends of the
retarded on a one-to-one basis,
and work in recreation, sociali-
zation and public education pro-
grams.
