Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Ruehs
of Houston announce the
engagement and forthcom-
ing marriage of their
daughter, Victoria Ann, to
I>arry Douglas Saalfeld. The
propective groom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. T. A.
Saalfeld of Columbus, Ne
braska.
The bride-elect is a
graduate of Concordia Tea
chers College in Seward,
Nebraska. She is presently
teaching fourth grade at
First Lutheran School in
Little Rock Arkansas.
Her fiance, also a gradu
ate of Concordia Teachers
College, is teaching and
coaching at Trinity Luthe
ranSchool in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa.
Their wedding vows will
be solemnized in July at
Pilgrim Lutheran Church in
Houston.
Before an altar decorated
with green and white
caladiums and spiral candel-
abras holding white candles
entwined with English Ivy,
Miss Caren Ann Scull,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Charles Scull of
Houston, became the bride
of Lt. Deon Kirk Shaffer,
son of MR. and Mrs. Gordon
Lee Shaffer of Bay City.
Vows for the double-ring
ceremony were recited June
12 at 7 p.m. in the Westbury
Baptist Church in Houston
with the Rev. William
Jefferson Clements, grand
father of the bride, officia-
ting.
Music was provided by
the Ladies' Handbell of the
Westbury Baptist Church,
Hart Morris director. Or
ganist for the wedding was
Miss Sandria Ward.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a
formal gown of ivory bridal
satin designed by Priscilla of
Boston. The gown featured
an oval neckline and
wrist-length buttoned slee
ves of re embroidered Alen
con lace. The dress flowed
into a chapel-length train. A
cap of ivory held the
cathedral length, mantilla
veil. Wide scalloped re-
embroidered Alencon lace
edged the entire veil that
was further enhanced by
scattered lace appliques
over its entirety. The veil
cascaded over the back of
the gown to beyond the
train’s length.
The bride’s bouquet was a
nosegay of white roses, fern,
and baby^ breath.
In keeping with tradition,
the bride borrowed her veil
from Mrs. Edward Russell
Walker III. She also wore
the traditional blue lace
garter which had been worn
by her mother at her
wedding. A sixpence was
enclosed in the garter.
Miss Deborah Jayne Scull,
sister of the bride, was maid
of honor and bridesmaids
included Miss Alicia Allen,
Miss De De Riggan, Miss
Donna Fitzgerald, all of
Houston; Mrs. Bill Tone of
Bellaire; and Miss Susan
Pierce of West Columbia.
They were dressed identical-
ly in gowns of yellow
Georgette fashioned with
ruffled collars and formal
length skirts. Yellow
gingham ribbons defined the
Empire waists. Yellow
picture hats trimmed with
gingham ribbon and daisies
completed their attire.
They carried wicker baskets
of yellow and white daisies.
Best man was Richard P.
Loiselle of Dallas and
groomsmen included Dan P.
Brownlee of Fayetteville,

On June 5, at 2 p.m., Miss
Carolyn J. McCaine became
the bride of Robert N.
Damron in St. Mark’s
Episcopal Church. Rev.
Arch M. Hewitt officiated
the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jack M.
McCaine of Houston and the
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Damron of Dallas.
For her wedding the bride
sewed her gown from white
eyelet material. The dress
featured a self ruffle around
the scoop neckline, and tied
in back with a large ruffle
which descended into a short
train. Her veil was tiered
and caught up in a Juliet cap
of baby’s breath and
stephanotis. She carried the
handkerchief carried by her
mother, aunt, and great
grandmother.
Mrs. Monty Johnson of
Tulsa, Mrs. Gary Patterson,
and Mrs. Terry Ott served
as honor attendants. They
wore navy gowns adorned
with small white stars.
White ribbons and baby’s
breath were worn as
headpiecees. Their bou-
quets consisted of red,
white, and blue flowers tied
with red, white, and blue
ribbon to carry out the
bicentennial theme.
Ray Bratten of Lubbock,
Ken Plunk, of Dallas , and
* **rry Ott of Houston served
as groomsmen. The bride’s
brothers, John and James
McCaine, and David Pratt of
Dallas ushered the guests.
A reception was held
immediately following the
ceremony at the home of the
bride’s grandmother, Mrs.
H.R. Houck.
The bride graduated from
Bellaire High School and
Texas Tech University. She
plans to complete and MBA
degree at The University of
Texas Graduate School of
Business.

Serving as ushers for the
wedding were Michael Pol-
lard of Broken Arrow,
Oklahoma; Walter Scull II of
La Vernia; David Pollard of
Alvin; and Kent Pollard of
Bay City; all first cousins of
the bride and groom.
Members of the house
party included 14 Chi Omega ►
sorority sisters and Miss
Candy Scull, cousin of the
bride.
For traveling, the bride
chose a two piece white linen
suit. White accessories
completed the ensemble.
After a wedding trip to the
Georgia Coast, the couple
will make their home in
Austin where the groom will
enter law school at the
University of Texas in the
fall.
The bride, a graduate of
Sam Houston State Univer
sity in Huntsville, is a
member of Chi Omega
Sorority. The groom
graduated from United
States Military Academy at
West Point. -
Honored guests attending
the wedding from out-of-
town were: Rev. and Mrs.
Jeff Clements of Hochheim,
grandparents of the bride;
Mrs. Lula Terry, great-aunt
of the bride, of Jacksonville,
Florida; Mrs. Stella Shaffer
and Mr. and Mrs. Hudson D.
Pollard, all of Bay City,
grandparents of the groom.
