This is an x-ray showing the two hooks swallowed by the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle dubbed "Hook". The
turtle was returned to the sea this week. See "Island observer" for more on "Hook".
Tale of two animals
• This is a story about animals which
; endure hardships that to us humans
; would seem “heroic”. Not detracting
; from the wonder we feel towards their
, efforts at survival, I must point out
; that these heroics are instinctual in all
; animals, including even ourselves at
! times.

Hook had already experienced mis-
fortune before being caught on a rod
and reel. Two half-moon-shaped bites
(now healed) out of each side bear
testimony to encounters with sharks.
Hopefully Hook’s instinct to survive
will keep him alive and well at sea for
years to come. Note that I called
Hook “him”. We don’t know if Hook
is a “him” or a “her”, but when the
results of the blood tests come in, we
will know. If Hook is a “her”, then
maybe one day she will return to nest
in Mexico, or even Texas.

For Constable
I am a write in candidate
for the office of Constable
Pet #7, Nueces County. I
have not entered this race
to feed an ego, or for the
prestige that is associated
with the office. I care for
Port Aransas, and I care for
the people who live here.
This is my home too. I take
a deep pride in my hon-
esty, and my dedication to
duty. I worked very hard
to maintain the integrity
of this office under Dee-
Wavne.'and I will continue
to ao so, as Constable.
The needs of the citizens of this community are my
first priority, and when called on, day or night, these needs
will be satisfied, to the best of my ability.
there will be many hurdles
to
> jump, and the challenge will be great. Quality law
lforcement is a must for our city, and I know many of you
want that, because you have told me so. With your support,
and your vote, that quality will be ours.
Thank you,
