Special to The Tima.
Santa Fc, N. M., Doc. 9.—That
President Taft has Indicated his In- #
tentlon to issue his proclamation ad-
mitting New Mexico as a state imme-
diately upon receipt by him of the re-
port of the official canvass of the vote
was the pleasing information tele>»
graphed hero from Washington today-
There has been some talk of a possi-
ble delay in the issuance of the procla-
mation and, while little attention was
paid to the gloomy predictions of the
pessimistic ones, the news of the pres-
ident's decision to brook no delay, was
received with general satisfaction ar-
ound the capital.
When the canvassing board ad-
journed this afternoon the count had
been completed for nine of the twen-
ty-six counties of New Mexico. To-
day Guadalupe and Lincoln counties
were disposed of. in the former the
Republican candidates make a net
gain of twelve votes over the unoffi-
cial figures, while in. Lincoln county
there was no change in the result as
previously announced, the unofficial
figures being substantially correct.
Tomorrow the board expects to com-
plete the count for Lune, McKinley,
Mora and Otero counties. The work
of the board is proceeding smoothly
and there is every ^reason t0 believe
that they will have finished their ta-
bors and adjourned sine die by the
middle of next week.
An informal scrutiny of the offi-
cial figures from Torrance county
this morning disclosed an increaso
of two in the vote for Edward I «
Medler, Republican candidate for dis/
trict judge. This gives Mr. Medler an
apparent majority of thirty over his
Democratic opponent, Judge John Y.
Hewitt. It is also said that an ex-
amination of the returns from T^os
county shows a loss of from forty
to fifty votes for all the Republican
candidates in that county.

WEST COAST MINES
ABE ACTIVELY OPERATING
Special to The Tima.
Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico, Dec. 9.—
The fibre plantation of Pedro Herma-
nns at Pericos, Sinaloa, is turning out
quite a good product both in quality
and quantity the past few months.
Their shipments move from Retcs
Station to San Francisco in carload
lots. As a bi-product of the mescal
plant, the liquor produced finds a
market in the state of Sinaloa.
The farmers in the Los Moehis sec-
tion In the Fuerte valley harvested 19
cars of alfalfa seed the past season.*'
The acreage under cultivation In that
section the coming year will be large-
ly Increased. Their product is market-
ed In Culiacan, Massatlan and Tepic.
Preparations are being made to re-
sume work on the El Cajon, Juarez,
and the Cero Colorado mines in tho '
Altar district of Sonora.
A. L. Lewis Is in the city en route
from the upper Yaqui section to his
home In Hermosillo. Mr. Lewis re-
ports the Animas mine at San Xavier J
shipping 300 tons of . concentrates*
monthly to the El Paso smelter. Min-
ing prospects on the upper Yaqui ara
looking brighter, and it is probable
that shipments will be started from
other mines in the vicinity of La Dura
early in the coming year.

RAILWAY PRESIDENT
CRITICIZES GOVERNORS.
Aaoclatcd Press Dispatch
St. Cloud, Minn., Dec. 8.—Western
governors who are talking politics
and not exploiting the natural re-
sources of their country on the gov-
ernors' special, were taken to task
today at a meeting of the Northern
Minnesota Development association,
by Louis W. Hill, president of the
Great Northern railway.
He declared that some of them
were talking politics in the east,
where their brand of politics is of no..
Interest and that the Great Northern^
road had been receiving Inquiries
about the natural resources of their
states while some of the governors
discoursed upon politics.
"^,r- Hi" caused a mild sensation by 4
this charge. He directed his remarks
especially to Governor Oswald West
of Oregon.
"The governor of Oregon is fritter-) f
felling the east what
he knows about woman suffrage and
airing his personal views on other
public questions."
"What does the east care for them?
He. is forgtting bis skate. That fel-
low Is overlooking a big bet. He is
exploiting himself rather than his
state.”
