Will Not Give Satisfaction.
Rut It is nm. g'lng to Ite a satlsfac-
jtriry arrangement.. Judging from the
nimher of complaints that have at
rea |v reached the Times A landlord
w ho rents to p mr Mexican families
railed up thi Times office last night
to say that there was no justice in
puj more
for water than the wealthy citizen und
hole! men were required to pay. He
said that well-to-do people who used
considerable water on their lawns
and gardens were charged the meter
rate of 20 tents per 1000 gallons and
thill tIt** situk rate should be given
■■ half dozen poor families living in
the sattio home.

lons of water per month used In that
house. Still the owlter pays the water
company 90 cents a month and now
the receiver proposes to increase It to
jl.HO per mofith..
Trebles the Rate.
“Now. if Lot It of our families used
jointly 8000 gallons of water a month,
which wo do not do, the rates the re
reiver proposes to charge US is 00
cents per 1000 gallons. Don'i you
think that is putting It on a little hard
er than the people will stand for?'
Abused Their Privilege.
It is understood that the request for
an order from the court to apply the
minimum rate of 90 cents to alt fam-
ilies and persons doing light house-
keeping. because of the abuses of the
minimum rate in certain sections of
the city where eight or ten families
gel their water supply from one hy-
drant and denied it. tile party control-
lug the hydrant Insisting that, he
should not pay more than 90 cents.
A Remedy Suggested.
This, however, if has been suggest-
ed, ion Id lie easily remedied by shut,
ting eft the water or compelling tin*
landlord to pay meter rales for all the
water registered by the meter at the
community hydrant.
Thinks Order Wi'i Be Changed.
OUs Andrews, residing on Sun An-
tonio street, says that lie is conllJent
that when the situation Is explained
to Judge Mnxey he will not permit
light housekeepers to be charged a
higher rate for water than is charged
hotels and rooming houses. He says
that if six families occupy one house
they should be required to pay for no
mere water than is registered by the
meter at that house and ihat they
should pay no more than 20 cents per
1000 gallons.
Will Exercise Discretion.
However, Receiver Hyatt will no
doubt exercise his discretion in carry-
ing out the court’s order so as not to
make any one consumer pay more
than another
