“We believe that Mr. Ulman will
accept our proposition to build tho
hotel on El Paso street; but whether
ho does or not 1 can state positively
that the hotel wilt be built on the
northwest corner of El Paso and
West San Antonio street." was the
• tnphatle declaration of J. G. Mo-
Nary to a Times man yesterday.
The 01 Paso street boosters de-
clare that they have begun work on
the hotel project. They have raised
the required bonus of $85,000 and
are now at work securing subscrip-
tions to the stock of a local hotel
company to bo organised In ease Mr.
Ulman rejects the El Paso street
proposition.
It seems that Z. T, White has wired
from Los Angeles that he will put In
his property and take stock for Its
entire value. In addition to this all
subscribers to the bonus have signed
up for stock for double their sub-
scriptions to the bonus, which gives
“ subscription list totaling
$255,000.
The. backers of the Cleveland
Square site are also confident that
Mr. Oman's company will build a big
hotel on (he northwest corner of Ore-
gon and Missouri streets. They claim
to have practically raised the $75,-
000 cash bonus and they are In dally
communication with Mr. Ulman.
However, one of the boosters of
the north side site called at the Amer-
ican Natlonul bank yesterday to pro-
pose—as he stated to Hon. Richard
Caples and a Times man—to J. M.
Wyatt that he was willing tp abandon
the north side project If Mr. Wyatt's
parly would abandon the El Paso
street prbjcct so that all could join
In securing the erection of a big hotel
on the alrdome property east of the
city hall, and the removal of the
city hall building.
A telegram was received from R. F.
Burges, now In Washington, to the
effect that If the property owners
west of Oregon street would withdraw
their opposition to the postoffleo be-
ing loosted on Franklin street, be-
tween Stanton and Kansas, Mr. Bur-
ges and his friends would support the
El Paso street hotel project.
So It seems that the contest over
the hotel site Is getting all mixed up
with the postoffice fight, and a sharp
game of politics is being played. But
the El Paso street people say they
are standing pat.

An able paper devoted to the ques-

As a preliminary to the faster
game between the boys and the Y.

team undertook to deat the High
School girls. While they gave an ex-

League of the public schools held
their weekly basketball tournament
and then a challenge game between
the Lamar and Mesa schools was
pulled off for a good measure.
The three regular game* were fast
and interesting although two of them
were very one sided. A* a result of
the tournament the Lamar first team
still retains the lead of the league
having no dereata registered against
the team.
The scores of the games are as fol-
lows: Lamar 1st team 41; Sunset 4:
Lamar 2nd team 1«, Aoy 10; San
Jacinto 28, Beall 1.
The games between the Aoy and
Lamar 2nd was a complete surprise
to the large crowd of onlookers that
thronged the galleries. Heretofore
the Aoy boys have been meat for
every team in the league. Yesterday
however their Improvement in the
science of the game waa manifest.
The percentages of the league are
as follows:
Team. Played. Won. Lost. Pet.
Lamar 1st ......8 6 o 1000
$an Jacinto.....8 6 1 .833
Lamar, 2nd .....8 4 2 .867
Beall..........6 2 4 .333
Sunset .........6 l 5 .167
Aoy ..........6 0 8 .000
In the challenge game played be-
tween Lamar 1st snd the Mesa school
after the tournament the colors of
the Mesa went down in defeat for the
first time this season. After a hard
fast game the score stood IS to 11
for the Lamarites.

The hit of the session, however, was
Percy MoGbee’s ten-minute address
on "Boy's Work.’* In this he told of
his success in handling Bible classes
of boys In the Sunday school and In
the Y. M. C. A. He told how he made
all the boys strive to do something
worth while. How he sympathised
with them in their troubles snd ex-
