We checked with a dozen or
so readers about bow they
planned to observe the
Fourth of July come Thurs-
day. Obviously, tbe big ma-
jority were taking tbe day off
with tbe exception of service
stations, drive-in grocery
stores and some eating
pieces Majority of those
checked listed, in order, the
following ways of
celebrating: Back yard cook-
outs always seem to come in
first and this year was no ex-
ception Families and
neighbors find it a choice way
to share their talents and
goodies A close second was a
trip to tbe lake with skiing,
swimming, camping and
picknicking dominating the
activities Some had patriotic
programs of parades, music
and fireworks on their agen-
da. At random were things
like "Beat the heat.” sleep for
the entire 36 hours, and “just
take it easy *. We did find
that the lucky ones were get-
ting a "mini vacation" in that
they were off work until Mon-
day morning Ifour long days).
Many of those listed out-of-
town trips as the highlight of
their week-end. Regardless of
your plans, remember to play
it safe and watch that over-
exposure to the summer sun.
And do have an enjoyable
Fourth. Remember, it only
comes once a year!

EDITORIAL COMMENT
Salute To Local Businesses
Tkk week's issue of The News features a tribute to a
Dumber of tbe local business firms
Included in tbe messages conveyed by tbe firms is a
thumb-nail sketch of each individual business
represented, relating their background, date when
established, services and goods offered and other per-
tinent information. It all makes interesting reading
and would be well for readers to clip and save for
future reference.
The News joins in a salute to these progressive firms
They are a vital part of our growing community, and
we recommend your doing business with each and
everyone of them. _

Letters To
The Editor
Dear Editor
With our Stale lacing conti-
nuing budgets restraints, its
vary reassuring to know that
the citizens are being well
represented by several
respectable people on two
committees that will report
their recommendation* regar-
ding the budget to the Gover-
nor. One committee is being
headed by a past Governor,
Mr. John Connaliy. Just
because he couidnt manage
his own affairs and declared
personal bankruptcy certain-
ly shouidn t disqualify' this
great business leader from
telling us how to pull our
State out of the hole The
solution is simple. Raise the
gas taxes and business taxes.
The other committee leader is
our very own Bill Hobby a
career politician and liberal
democrat who doesn't know
the meaning of cut the
budget, but prescribes to that
same old and always failing
solution of raise taxes to
solve the problem. It gives
me a warm feeling to know
the budget is being looked at
by these two very capable
men. Oh by the way. lets be
quiet and don't tell anybody
about the Republican caucus
plan that requires no tax in-
crease and calls for spending
cuts We certainly wouldn't
want Mr Connaliy or Hobby
to think something so simple
would work

The American National Bank was founded in 1875. Today.
116 years later were still providing the kind of community
banking services we pioneered in North Texas.
Today our bank has Total Assets of over 240 million dollars.
And while we re not the largest bank in the state, our capital
ratio makes us one of the strongest banks in the country.
