Wylie artist John Pototschnik. above, displays his most recent
work entitled. "My Country 'Tis of Thee".
j Local Artist Begins
j Seven-Part Series
Wylie artist John
J Pototschnik has just com-
pleted the first in a seven-
„ part series of paintings for
the Park Cities. Dallas
celebrating America's In-
dependence. The first pain-
ting is entitled, "My Country
Tis of Thee”.
Previously, Pototschnik
completed a five-part series of
paintings from 1983-87, that
were commissioned by Abio
and Adleta Realtors of
1 Dallas, entitled “The
Parade Two of these pain
{ tings were awarded the
George Washington Honor
Medal from the Freedoms
Foundation at Valley Forge.
He and his wife, Marcia, and
J sons, Jonathan and Andrew,
purchased land in Wylie in
1973 and built their home in
1980. His work is displayed
in several area galleries in-
cluding the Texas Art
Gallery (Dallas), Helene's Art
Gallery (Plano) and Goliad
Art Gallery (Rockwall).
Probably best known for his
“Early Wylie" print,
Pototschnik has captured
several scenes of Collin Coun-
ty on canvas. He said that
during Wylie’s Centennial in
1986, C. Truett Smith ex-
pressed an interest in preser-
ving Wylie's history. Thus,
Pototschnik was inspired to
create "Early Wylie”. He
also said another person who
contributed in making the
painting a success was Ray-
mond Cooper, who was a
sponsor. To date, 50 pain-
tings of Wylie have been done
by him.
Pototschnik has a positive
attitude for the future of
Wylie. “I think it (Wylie) is
going to grow. I hope there's
good planning and we re able
to keep up with the growth,"
he remarked.
Reflecting on Wylie’s
heritage, he said: "I like the
name Wideawake Wylie' and
I hope the name remains. I
hope the words become a
reality • that we could be
alert, knowledgeable and
make wise decisions as a com-
munity and as a people. This
is a special community and
the people are very caring."
Pototschnik has been in-
vited to show his work during
July Jubilee at the Kreymer
House on North Ballard. He
will be there all day on Satur-
day, July 20.

motels since the fire. On July
7, they will be able to move
into a permanent residence in
