what is known as catarrhal pneumo-
nia, which is not infectious. A fur-
ther investigation by tho department
resulted in the developemeut of the
fact that the diseased beet was bought
in a certain locality in Ohio. Au in-
spector has been Sent to that state to
ace it there is any pluro-phueumonirt
there and to ascertain tho lacts about
this particu'ar beet. Tho iucident
t ©men just at the timo the department
is trying to break down tho restric-
tions imposed ou American cattle by
England and other countries, and It is
necessary that the matter should be
cleared up at once. It is probable as
soon as Ihe inspector makes bis report

ation and rotntatiou to the English
