Some of our people do not
like to read so much about the
railroad. They do not like to
help the railroad. They pre-
fer to drone it through life.
Business men get “out of
sorts’’ and act and speak very
uncivily some times, but an Ed-
itor must always wear a bland
smile and be on the right side.
It he does not suit the partic-
ular mood of the- dyspeptic, lie

A friend informed us of the
action of a creature going under
the misnomer of a man. To all
appearances he is a man, but
since appearances are deceptive
it is not strange that in this case
one is decieved. This creature
goes over to his neighbor’s house
regularly every evening to get
the Times to read. Rain, hail,
storm or battle, nothing keeps
Him a way. He sits down and
reads the paper through, gets
up and throws the paper down
and swears if he could not get
up a better paper he would
quit the town. It would be a
relief to his neighbor, no doubt,
if he would try his hand one
day, provided he would exe-
cute the threat and leave town
promptly.
A communication from “Ne-
mo” calls for a little attention.
“How do we know they will
not subscribe?” by them not
having their names on the list
and by their not having sent in
a check. “Bring up a gilt edged
paper etc.” Did any body
bring up a gilt edged paper
guaranteeing that your wife
would be a success, or that any
other venture you ever made
would be a success? Yes there
are certain animals that coax
better than they drive. Our
Lord once rode one of these in-
to the city and maybe we can
ride one out of the city. As to
the “Leon or bust” project,
nothing but the stand pipe has
ever busted unless it whs some
of the old gass bags about town'
that are vainly trying now toj
till up again. The new project}
is not a “before-breakfast" un-
dertaking and the li '.tie tliougt j
of little men swarm thick and
fast about the undertaking. I
To the Citizens of Temple.
At a meeting of our people hold
hero on the 21ft, iast. it was decided
(but we iu connection with the other
towns a'ong a proposed line to Mar-
Mo Falls investigate .ho possibility ot
building a railroad from this point to
Marble Falls. A representative fro pi {
each town was appointed and these
representatives considered ihe lirst
ti ing necessary would be to run a
preliminary su vey and at the same
time ascertain whether right-of-way
could >>e had. To ao this, Temple was
a-sesed *25<», that being her pro-rata
share. Now if our people think this
was ttie proper step to be taken and
are willing to pay the $250 the survey
will be made. (Providing, ot course,
the other towns come up with their
part).
For the convenience of our people
a subscription list has been prepared
and left at each of the banks, and our
citizens are invited to call at either of
the banks and put down such nn
amount as they feel able to give. If
the money is not subscribed on or be-
fore May 1st, the matter will be drop-
ped. We think this is a bettor plan
to meet our peoplo than canvassing
from house to house and boring our
people, as it is a matter that concerns
all alike. Yerv respectfully.
G. E. Willcox. <
IV. It. Wade, 5 Committee.
Mr. Editor:—Every sinco the rail-
road boom has started, you have made
it a point to fling unkind remarks at
a class of men you thought would
uot subscribe to the building and
equipping the same, yet want to reap
an equal benefit with those who will
give liow do you know they will
not give? Most likely they have good
reasons for not doing so. You know
there is one class of anima's that can’t
be driven, yet may be coaxed. Ap-
proach these men with a gilt-edged
guarantee that the road once begun
will be completed, and I have no
doubt but each one will cubscribo
most liberally. Your paper talked,
drummed and placaided our town,
•‘On to the Leon or bust,” well we
went to the Leon, but busted, and
groat was the bust, and to-day pract-
ically, fl^ds us without a substantial
system ol water works. How do these
men know but what the same thing
may happen to your pet scheme otthc
present. Now,Mr. Editor, you put a
good engineer at the throttle, and
every man of us will assist him with
coal, and you will find the conductor
will land us safely at Llauc, aud when
wo have returned, great, will bo the

While in Austin a few days ago I

deep down in vaults, shut off from the

taken from the labor of these same
bandits, into useful circulation there
was a great tumult raised and the
governor hirr.self maligned and accus-

A special from Tahlcquah I. T. says
Tho loving devotion ot a mother to
her child is almost as enduring as the
heavens above, aud is not to be com-
pared to earfcly things. This fact has
been many times exemplified, aud the
extreme hardships undergone last
week by Mrs. Nancy Sixkillcr, mother
of the two Dunnawas boys who were
hanged at this place Friuay, was onlv
another substantiating instance of
this assertion. Alter learning that
the principal chief had refused to par-
don her boys or commute the death
sentence the old lady was wild with
grief, and determined to go to the
chief in person and make a last appeal
to him for their lives. The distance
from Mrs. Sixkillcr’s home in Goiug

dence on Grand r'vcrh not less than
Dinety miles. Although an aged and
feeble old woman ot seventy years she
made this long, journey on loot and
alone.
And all iu vain.
Iter pleading with the stern old
chief came to naught, aud the,heart-
broken mother was back at this place
the day before the hanging so that
she might bo with her doomed boys
during tlicir last hours on earth.
