Ford to building cars at fall spet-d
Aid. according to an official state-
ment from the factory at Detroit,
the demand for Ford can and trucks
still exceeds the output despite the
fact that a new high level of pro-
duction has been reached.
By the first of May the figures
representing daily production were In
the neighborhood of 4.000 a day.
so the May schedule wa» set at
101,125 cars and trucks, not includ-
ing the output of the Forrf Canadian
plant or any of the foreign assem-
bling plants.' The output mounted
daily; May 12th brought forth 40*2,
the greatest number that have been
produced in one day so far this year.
Since the month has 25 working days
present indications point to a new
high record.
A comparison of Ford production
figure* for 1920 and 1921 discloses
the fact that for April, 1921 the
output was greater by 34,524 than
for the corresponding month of a
year ago. The output for May 1821
still probably overshadow May 1920
by between fifteen and twenty thou
sand cars and trucks.
Approximately 43,000 men are at
work in the Detroit plant of the Ford
Motor company. The factory Is op-
erating on full time, six days a
week and three shifts a day.
“We were never in a better con
ditlon than we are right now,’’ said
Henry Ford recently.

He was arrested in Mineral Wells
and brought to this city and placed
in jail last summer on charges of
horse theft. He confessed the crime
and related how he took a horse be-

and secured a saddle at another
place and was making his way to-

He also recited his life during
the trial. He was born in the slum
districts of San Francisco and was
reared in a life of shame and crime.
His father belonged to the under

It was the writer’s pleasure to lis-
ten to a sermon by Claud McClung
at the Central Christian church last
Tuesday evening on the subject of
“Building.” His text was about the
wise and foolish builders spoken of
by Christ as recorded in Matt. 7:24-
27. In giving further strength and
support to the text he used in con-
nection Prov. 16:25, and the parable
of the sower as recorded in Matt. 13.
Having known-Mr. McClung from
his boyhood when he worked with
his father on the farm, it was in-
deed a pleasure to listen to him as
he made, comparisons and gave
Illustrations in reference to life
building and to the very great Im-
portance of building a life upon the
good and substantial foundation—
Jesus Christ and'-the principles and
truths that He taught.
The sermon was delivered with
much earnestness- and with suffi
cient pathos and pulpit oratory to
make It both interesting and effect-
ive to the hearers. There were sev-
eral girls who responded to the clos
Ing appeal to accept Jesus Christ as
their savior and who were baptized
immediately after the sermon was
concluded.'
While Mr. McClung is yet a com-
paratively young man, having been
in the ministry-only about ten years,
he will no- doubt soon be, If not
already, one of the strong and In
fluential preachers of his denomina-
tion.
It is gratifying to those who have
reached more mature years to see
friends whom they have known from
early life, launching out into fields
of great usefulness and striving to
help their fellowman upward and
onward to a higher and a better life.
Would that everybody might lay
their foundations and build their
lives upon the sure and substantial
truths and principles of the unerring
law of God.

Local Officers Pick up Robber.
Wednesday night local officers
took a man giving his name as Rod-
ger Thompson from the train and
held him as a suspect wanted in
connection with the Texas & Pacific
depot robbery at Sweetwater. Offi-
cers at Sweetwater was notified and
Sheriff Bardwell came down Wed
nesday afternoon and identified the
man as one of the party of three
who robbed the ticket office in that
city Monday night and took him
back to Sweetwater on the evening
train.
Thompson was found in a box
car on an east bound freight, and
when he was surprised by the offi-
cers^he gave his name. This gave
the c#w upon which he was held. It
is said that two other men were seen
leaving’the train just after it stopped
thn^.city, but after a diligent
search, officers failed to locate them.
There were three men in the party
who left Sweetwater, but Thompson
contended the other two went to
Amarillo.

Wednesday evening was indeed a
good one. Piano numbers, orchestra
selections, a mandolin trio and violin

for one hour which was highly en-
tertaining gnd very much out of the
ordinary. None of the performers
on this program had received more
than eight months’ instruction on
their instruments, but they make
muBic which is Indeed pleasing to
the ear, Too much cannot be said
In commendation of the work of Miss

wonders with these bright-eyed
youths.
Tonight at 7:45 the advanced pu-

promises to be one of unusual merit.
Go out to The Home tonight and
