Bobby Jack Gray ’
In recognition of the importance
of our natural resources of soil and
water, Governor Preston Smith has
designated the week of May 11-19 as
Soil Stewardship Week in Texas.
In many of Texas’ 187 Soil and
Water Conservation Districts, obser-
vances will be held in cooperation
With local churches to recognize the
duty man has toward preserving the
life-giving land.
Soil Stewardship Week gives each
individual an opportunity to stop
and evaluate his duty to the land,
said R. J. Sailor, chairman of the
McClellan Creek Soil and Water
Conservation District and Water
Conservation District Board of Su-
pervisors.
“The earth is the Lord’s and all
things therein. People are depend-
ent upon our soil and water for their
livelihood,” said Gov. Smith.
“The conservation 'and develop-
ment of Texas soil and water re-
sources are essential in the main-
tenance of the economy of the state.
We cannot 'afford the loss of water,
land and pollution of water and oth-
er abuses to our natural resources.”
“Soil and Water Conservation Dis-
tricts are committed to improving
our state through the wise use and
deevlopment of our soil and water
resources and 'are sponsoring Soil
Stewardship Week,” Smith said.
All citizens have a special invi-
tation to attend the Stewardship
Week events in their area, Sailor
stated.
