County Commissioners
adopt dog bite ordinance
By Neal Williams
Tribune Editor
Navarro County Commis-
sioners met on Monday,
November 24 in a special
called meeting to act on a
five item agenda.
Commissioners adopted
an ordinance establishing a
procedure to handle dog bite
complaints in the unincor-
porated areas of the county.
After a dog has bitten a
person, the owner has five
days to surrender the dog to
the county animal control
authority.
Because of the number of th e
sion of the animal, the
owner will be required to
purchase and maintain li-
ability insurance.
The owner is responsible
for all charges for impound-
ment and other costs.
♦ During the public com-
ment portion of the meet ing,
Navarro County Judge Alan
Bristol presented Gary
Callaway with a plaque of
appreciation. Judge Bristol
said Callaway has done
work on the courthouse for
many years and saved the
county much money with
his repairs. Callaway did

If the owner fails to de-
liver the dog as required, the
ordinance allows the County
Court or a Justice of the
Peace Court to issue a court
order for seizure and im-
poundment of the animal.
The court will also deter-
mine if the dog is a danger-
ous dog. If determined to be
a dangerous dog and the
owner wants to keep posses-
tative from Praeses Corpo-

meeting. The representative
will be present at the De-
cember 8 meeting.

of the November 10 meet-
ing.
♦ Approved payment of
the bills as submitted by the
