Homecoming week filled
with events, celebration

Panola College Homecoming
was a week filled of activities
and excitement.
The celebration started
Tuesday night with the
Homecoming formal. The dance
sponsored by the Student
Senate was held from 8 p.m. to
midnight in the ballroom.
The Homecoming court was
recognized at the dance. The
court was chosen by the student
body in a election held by the
Student Senate.
The first Cecil V. Robertson
lecture series was held
Wednesday in Q. M. Martin
Auditorium.
Bill Murchinson, a
syndicated columnist from the
Dallas Morning News, lectured
to a full house Wednesday
afternoon.
The Homecoming activities
continued Thursday with the
play from hardscrabble. The
Panola College Drama
Department presented the
play both Thursday and
Friday nights.
The play was written by Ben
Z. Grant, a former Panola
College student, now serving as
the 6th District circuit judge of
Texas in Texarkana.
In conjunction with
homecoming, a poster contest
was held. Several
organizations from Panola
College competed in the
contest. Winners were third
place-Panola College Cheer-
leaders, second place- Panola
College Student Senate and
first place-the Pony Express
staff.
Saturday was when most of
the Homecoming festivities
occurred.
Starting of the day was the
pep rally on the Carthage
square. The Panola
cheerleaders, band, twirler and
the PU Rally Crew performed
at the event.
Later that , day several
receptions were held in honor of
former Panola Pipers,
cheerleaders, faculty and drill
team members. The Drama
Department, Green Jackets and
band also held receptions
honoring former members.
The festivities came to a
close Saturday night with the
Pony and Fillie games and the
announcement of the king and
queen.
The Homecoming court was
presented between the games
at Johnson Gym.
Members of the court were
Tina Agnew, Edward Anderson,
Charles Arnold, Melody
Barbee, Tom Brown, Angela
Collins and Bob Hester,
Also, George "Binky"
Hooker, Margaret Johnson,
Keva Lathridge, Brandon
Muller, Wade Parsons, Melissa
Phillips, Rhonda Pryor and
Nathan Ross.
Also, Jonathan Shulte,
Kendra Smith, Mario Thomas,
Jay Thompson and Tami
Williams.
Phillips and Arnold were
named queen and king.
