Chevrolet Passes
35th Anniversary
An American industrial giant
, was 35 years old Sunday—but
I in the nation-wide manufactur-
' ing system of the Chevrolet
j Motor Division of General
| Motors Corp. there is no
; thought of pausing to cele-
; brate an historical milestone
| that only a relatively small
1 number of motor car manulac-
! timers have survived to ob~
|serve.
A titan of industry at- 35,
Chevrolet has attained a po-
. nion of dominance in the au-
! tomotive world from beginnings
| that were humble and unpre-
! dictable Today one of the best
Golden-
known names in the transpor-
tation field, Chevrolet in 1911
had barely entered production,
after two years of experimental
work under the direction of
Louis Chevrolet, old-time auto
race driver.

Diamond A. Gibson, John Wes-
ley Gibson, Mary and Irvin
Collier, and Dr. Wm. E. Smith.
Dr. R. E. Goodrich, presiding
elder of this district, preached
at the dedication services, and
at noon lunch was spread on the
church lawn. That afternoon a
quarterly conference and special
song service was held.
The new building was started
June 13, ] S45, when the Rev.
J. W. Shoemaker of Mineola
was serving as pastor. The fin-
j idling touches were put on
j Saturday prior to the dedica-
j tion by a small group of mem-
| bers who cleaned up the prem-
I isos and made it ready for
j Sunday, it has been in use
since April. The new church is
I modern in every respect, hav-
j ing such features as fluorescent
| lights, a ventilating system,
j butane heating, sound-soften-
ing celotex walls and ceiling,
and new pews.
Besides the roomy auditor-
ium the building has four
classrooms, making it plenty
large enough for the 120 mem-
bers.
The pastor is the Rev. O F.
Zimmerman who resides at
Alba.

“Most of my driving is over desert highways in
Arizona. Often the temperature climbs to 115° in
the shade.
“I drive a car that weighs over 4700 pounds. It
normally takes a 7 :C0-15 tire. My Company deliberately
put on the smaller 6:00-16 Gates Tires. They wanted to
see how the tires would hold up so heavily overloaded.
“I drove 50 to 60 miles an hour ... 10 hours at a stretch
for 25 days straight. In spite of the heat, speed, and over-
load . . . the tires didn’t give me a bit of trouble and they
aro still good for a lot of miles.”—A. J. Ryan, Veteran Test
Fleet Driver.
