managed to arrive in time for the
swearing in of all the newly
elected officials and watched the
procedure on closed circuit televi-

left a great deal to be desired and
we were glad to come home to
temperatures in the high 40’s.
Now if the fish will start biting

Key Thought: Esther the Queen - faith and courage won her life's
victory.
The wrath of King Ahasuerus would have fallen disastrously fatal on
Esther and her people had her nationality, a Jew, been known: so Esther
guarded her every movement with extreme caution.
Now Esther learned from her maids and the enuchs at the palace
(hat a serious feud between Mordccai and Harnan was brewing.

Distressed, she knew she had to act promptly and wisely. Mordccai (her
jousin) secretly contacted her, placing upon her the great responsibility,
“Who knoweth thou art come to the Kingdom for such a time as this .
Esther 4:14. Esther knew that she had a triumphant place in the hearts
of her people; this was God’s reward because she accepted her own
divine destiny. Her faith is proven by issuing an order that all Jews in
the land hold a "fast". She joined them in this fast. (Indicating to the
people that the Queen loved all the people.) Esther was a strong believer
in prayer. She resolved “So 1 will go in unto the King, which is contrary
to the law, and if I perish, I perish”.
Esther, in her most roval apparel, appeared betore the King. When
he beheld her. his first words were. “What wilt thou, Queen Esther and
what is thy request?”. It shall be given to thee up to the halt ot mv
kingdom.” His words were tender; his voice tilled with compassion.
“Just one request, my Lord. I hat you and Hainan join me tor dinner.
The King ordered that Haitian be brought immediately. Harnan, so
elated about the invitation, rushed home and told his wile, Zeresh. Now
I can pursue my plans to destroy the Jews.^lime is rightnow that I
have gained the Queen’s favor.”
Following the banquet the King could not sleep. He called tor the
Book of Records of all memorial deeds. Ihus lie uad \\tuu 0,1 U,M
had saved his life twice without reward. At the second banquet,
pre-arranged by Esther, she fell at the King s feet with tears in her t\cs,
pleading “We are sold. I and my people are to be destroyed, slain, to
perish The wicked one is Hamon." I he King ordered Hainan to the
gallows. He granted the Jewish people a term of respect and confidence.
The Jews observe even today the “I’urim Festival” on the 14th \
