Donate Toys
The Blinn College Vo-
cational Nurse alumni had
a very joyous and happy
Christmas party at the
Blinn College Student
Center on Dec. 8. The
table arrangements con-
sisted of Christmas can-
dles amid the silver tin-
sel and greenery. Other
beautiful decorations
were throughout the
room.
All present joined in
asking the blessing for
this happy occasion. Tur-
key. ham. several kinds of
vegetables, fruits, and
dessert were served. All
members were the host-
esses.
The highlight was the
opening of the Christmas
gifts donated by all mem-
bers and guest. There
were all kinds of chil-
dren's toys which will
be given to the residents
of the Brenham State
School. This was dedicat-
ed to the true spirit of
Christmas as a way in
wishing all the state
school children a very
Merry Christmas. The
door prize, a beautiful
Christmas centerpiece,
was won by Miss Vivian
Chervenka.
Dr. H. J. Boehm,
Jr., will be the guest
speaker at our January
meeting. The topic will
be "The Right to Life."
Our next meeting will be
Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

SANTA VISITS RETAMA—Santa Claus visited Retama Manor Friday afternoon.
Retama residents were enjoying a Christmas party with all the trimmings when San-
ta popped in. Cookies, punch, candy, and even small stockings were given to the res-
idents. The party was quite a hit with everyone, especially when Santa popped in.

CHRISTMAS REUNION
Saturday, Dec. 17, was
a wonderful day for
Mrs. Louis Wagner hav-
ing her children and
grandchildren gathering
for a joint festival, a pre-
Christmas dinner and
celebrating her 83rd birth-
day which was Dec. 15.
Those present were Mr.
and Mrs. Charlie Wagner,
Jr., and baby of Engle,
Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse
Kabanka and family of
Praha. Mr. and Mrs. Lau-
rence Wagner and family
of Hallettsville, Paulie
Wagner, Nicky and Ryan
of Shiner, Mr. and Mrs.
Danny Janysek of La-
Grange, and Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Wagner and
Felecia.
The men of the party
pitched in and put Mrs.
Wagner in a new cedar
porch and leveled her
house, a gift she sincerely
appreciated.
A pro-Christmas
dinner was enjoyed in
the home of Mrs. Ger-
trude Paviica and Raphael
on Sunday, Dec. 18, a
sumptuous dinner consist-
ing of all Christmas menu
was placed upon a double
table and served cafeteria
style. Miss Janice Boddy
of Houston was respon-
sible for the working up of
the happy get together.
Those present were
Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Boddv, Darwin and Janice
of Houston. Mrs. Donald
D. DeCecca of Dallas,
Mr. and Mrs. Edmund
J. Harbich and Lori of
Alice, Miss Teresa Pav-
iica. and Bill Walsh of

Just as the group was
gathering around the
table, the telephone
rang. It was Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Guthrie of
Milan, New Mexico.
Since the could not come
in person, they thought
the telephone was the
next best. They talked to
everyone here and in the
end. it was quite a visit.

attend.

The Smithville Wo-
men's Club met Dec. 16
in the home of Mayor and
Mrs. Lawrence Skelly.
Hostesses Mrs. Law-
rence Skelly, Mrs. E.
Doms, and Mrs. W. S.
Snyder welcomed the
members and guests as
they arrived. Club mem-
bers brought gifts for
shut-ins that were later
distributed by Mrs. Floyd
Hyson and Mrs. A. Veen-
stra.
The meeting was
called to order by Presi-
dent Veenstra. She
welcomed Mayor Skelly
who brought greetings
to everyone. Mayor Skelly
in turn told us that he
had brought a very special
guest and we were to
guess who. Santa Claus,
with his happy laugh,
brought the Christmas
spirit to everyone.
After a very short busi-
ness meeting, Mrs. W.
H. Cook introduced Mrs.
Raymond Cooper who
brought a very interesting
and happy review of the
book written by Mrs.
Billy Graham, entitled,
"A Christmas Story."
Following the book
review, everyone sang
"Silent Night." Guests
were then invited into
the spacious dining room
and were served from a
table loaded with Christ-
mas goodies.
Moores Celebrate
Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. C. C.
Moore of Lake Thunder-
bird were surprised by
their family on Christmas
Eve with a golden anni-
versary party.
The party was given by
their three children, Bet-
ty, Tom, and Jerry. Fif-
teen family
attended.

The Moores have re-
sided in Smithville for
51/, years and have been
very active in civic
affairs.
Mr. Moore is a retired
building contractor.

There were three births recorded in Bastrop
County this past week. Dec. 19-27.
A baby boy, was born on Dec. 26 at the Smithville Hospital to Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Lowes of LaGrange. Born at 5:05 p.m., the baby
weighed 9 lbs. 1 Vi ozs. and measured 21V* inches.
A baby boy, Edward Lawrence Haywood, was born at the Bastrop Mem-
orial Hospital on Dec. 20 to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Haywood of Bastrop.
The little bov was born at 2:18 p.m. weighed 5 lbs. and measured 20 inch-
A babv boy, Gonzalo Gonzales, Jr., was born at the Bastrop Memorial
Hospital on Dec. 21 to Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalo Gonzales of Bastrop. Born at
10:35 p.m., the baby weighed 8 lbs. 7ozs. and measured 20Vi inches.
